I am incredibly saddened to hear of Randy's death. We spoke a few times on the phone when I offered, last year, to help out in any way I could to search for poor Brian. I am extremely shocked to hear that he died and wish I could have met him. Derek, I dont think there are words to express my sorrow but as you know, your father truly truly was an extremely kind man and I will always think of him. He spoke of you fondly and was very kindhearted and good.

On Sept 14, Central Ohio Crime Stoppers and the Community lost a friend Randy Shaffer father of missing Ohio State medical student Brian Shaffer [www.findbrianshaffer.com] was killed when a tree fell on him. Randy had just lost his wife to cancer when three weeks later, his son disappeared without a trace. But Randy never gave up and helped many other families with missing adults and children. He also helped to raise thousand of dollars to help fight crime for Central Ohio Crime Stoppers, along with Tony Luzio, whose son is also missing. Randy’s family asked Kevin Miles, President of Central Ohio Crime Stoppers, to do Randy’s eulogy at his funeral. Kevin asked some of Crime Stoppers’ friends to write letters to share with the family at the funeral. You can read them on the LETTERS page of this site. I saw this sad, sad story awhile ago one of the shows on television. It may have been DATELINE. I have often thought of Brian and am sorry to hear that you all are still waiting. I can't imagine your pain. Please accept my sympathy and I will pray for you all and Brian. I wish you all ~~PEACE & COMFORT~~.

I helped in the search last year and I feel sad that Randy died without getting his answers. I have been praying for Tony Luzio Jr and Brian Shaffer to be found. I hope someday Tony Sr. and Brian's brother and their families will get answers to this. Whether Randy has the answers now or not, I don't know, but it is sad that he died without knowing what happened to his son. He and Tony Sr. were passionate and courageous, never giving up hope and always looking for answers. I hope answers will come soon. I will continue to pray for that. God's arms are not so short that he cannot reach us with answers to our questions and solutions to our problems. God bless you all and may HE send angels to help, guide, comfort and protect you.
