Hi Mike, Need help in tracking down a specific classic silent film. I am looking for the Thief Of Bagdad with Douglas Fairbanks that was restored in 1987 using music from the Sherazade through out the entire film. The restoration was underwritten by the Exxon Company. I first became aware of it when it was on the PBS Station here in Detroit. In my research I did find a review of it in the New York Times from 1987. I am looking for it now and do not know where to begin. All the ones I see now are not it. Just need help in where to start or where to go. The pretenders out there do not stand up to this most excellent restoration

As I said, earlier, I did see "The Strangers". I have to say it was a lot spookier when I went in thinking events actually happened. When I got home I did a little research and could not come up with actual names of the people in the movie. Not like An American Crime or Alpha Dog. However, there was a murder in Northern California in the 70's that may have influenced this. I am hearing a lot about the Manson murders, too. Having said all that, I liked it. For the first hour it had that "Halloween" feel. In a few ways. But, read Maxs' review, it is pretty on. I would give it a star higher, though. Finally, do not go in looking for a lot of blood and gore. More on the psychological side.

I have been away but I just read the posts. Mike, thank you for the breakdown. My thought of the ending to "No Country......." was, "jumbled". I am glad I am not on an island there. I still have to recommend it to whomever asks. So far, no one has come back to punch me in the neck for that recommendation. Thank you for, "The Host" title. I have heard a little about that and usually it is described as, "different". I look forward to checking that out. Hi Meg. I have seen the Sundance horror. Also, IFC has their own version. They had "Eaten Alive" on awhile back. It is a '77 Tobe Hooper movie. You have to REALLY like horror to like this one. It has a very young Robert Englund in it. I would not recommend it to anyone but I got a kick out of it. So beware if you venture onto it. Thank you for the titles. This should be a light weekend so I am planning on seeing, "The Strangers" and then grabbing a "Mike" and a "Meg" movie and settle in. I will write back soon.

Books are sooo 20th century (so, in other words, no, I haven't read the Chronicle books). Wasn't Treebeard in Lord of the Rings though? And Chronicles 2 had unidentifiable trees? Either way, I guess it's an unfortunate coincidence that LOTR and Shrek got to display their versions first because they immediately came to mind as a detractor this time, regardless of origins. But, like I said, I had larger problems with this film than those two.

"I thought it copied the second "Lord of the Rings" with the cop-out of 'let's have the trees come alive and fight our battle for us' element, plus "Shrek" with the sword fighting cat and now the little warrior mouse which also cracks jokes." Bill, Treebeard and Reepicheep were in the books. (Or, since my cruel side tends to pop out in times like this, do you even know what a book is?)

I saw the new "Chronicles of Narnia" last night and had a lot of problems with it. ***A couple of spoilers here: I felt the original was so much better for many reasons (including what Max said in her review), and I thought it copied the second "Lord of the Rings" with the cop-out of 'let's have the trees come alive and fight our battle for us' element, plus "Shrek" with the sword fighting cat and now the little warrior mouse which also cracks jokes. Those two things didn't ruin the movie for me, but plenty of other things did. It really felt like they rushed through putting this script together just to get a product out in a certain time window because a little tweaking here or there could have made a big difference I feel. The only bright spot for me was Peter Dinklage, who I now wish was the only character on screen for the 2 hours and 20 minutes.
