Thanks so much for your blog Mike...very insightful. Ok, so the Globes are getting smarter. Yet they still are making very embarassing mistakes. (like nominating Travolta over Hal Holbrook and Philip Bosco and snubbing Laura Linney, while giving that girl from Hairspray a nod) Nonetheless, their choices are for the most part right on...good for Eastern Promises and Viggo Mortensen, who had the most underrated performance of the year. But 7 nominations in the dramatic picture category? That seems a bit excessive. I think they could have excluded The Great Debaters and made it a more refined race. But Atonement still seems the one to beat! I'm anxious to here both of your top 10 lists....or, knowing Mike, his Top 13 top 10 list :)

Jordan,
Check out my blog on Awards season. Right now, I think most of the fields are wide open. "The Savages" is a film that's often hard to take, due to the subject matter, but the three lead performances are terrific, particularly Laura Linney.

Hey guys....miss you a lot. Ok, so first off, did I read that right, or did Maxim say that "It's a Wonderful Life" was the worst Christmas movie? Death to them! Capra and Stewart were geniuses! It's one of the best movies....ever! Secondly, am I the only one on the face of the earth (besides Ebert) who liked "The Polar Express"? I thought that it was truly beautiful and sweeping. Come on, Maxim!
Moving on to more important things, Max, you and I have the same taste in comedies...last year it was "Little Miss Sunshine," and now "Juno." I had the privilege of seeing this gem last week, and a star is now born in Ellen Page...Oscar, anyone?
Speaking of, it's been interesting to see who's winning all of the critics circles awards this year....looks like "No Country For Old Men" is the one to beat...But I must say that my favorite so far this year is "Atonement". It's so beautiful and heartbreaking...it's a must see.
One more thing....have either of you guys seen "The Savages?" It sounds like a great film (I mean, what's not to love about Hoffmann, Linney, and Bosco? Especially since the director is anti-sentimentality, which will be fresh for a film with this subject matter.

ok, after listening to the holiday show again this week, i unfortunately read maxim's 14 worst christmas movie of all time. Normally i would ignore them, and just say they are trying to make people mad, but seriously, Home Alone, Polar Express, Scrooged, and their number 1, Its a Wonderful Life.
It isn't bad enough to take home alone, but not parts 2,3,4... The santa clause 2, but not 3, but really, worst Christmas movie of all time, "Its a Wonderful Life". I think a certain "writing staff" started hitting the egg nog a little early this year.

Meg,
Manhattan Murder Mystery is a real treat, isn't it? I liked Bullets Over Broadway, too, from around the same time.
