I was first stationed at March Field in May 1937 and assigned to Hq & Hq Sq 1st Wing. The total area at that time was one square mile and was surrounded entirely by wheat fields.

Aaah, the memories of being stationed at March Field (AFB) back in Jan '62-Sept '64 w/Traffic Management, 22nd Trans Sq, 22nd Bomb Wing... And living in barracks #977, now shuttered up. GREAT DUTY, Mom & siblings lived 30 mi away in Pomona! Who can't forget the Cuban missile crisis, the call up of all loadmasters & air frt personnel on 1-hr notice for TDY & PCS to 'Nam? Caddying for the celebrity golf tournament, ( I got James Garner), playing in base tennis, bowling, golf tournaments & all of those damn parades, not to mention the 5BX program? LOLOL...Yep, those WERE the days. I miss the comraderary terribly, don't you? I guess when its all said n done, when we meet our master, we won't have too far to look at our old airbase fm the national cemetary across the hwy, huh? I was stationed at March AFB as a first term airman from Jan 68 to Jan 70. I was a computer opperator with the 22nd CSG. I finished my time in the military with 20 years in the Nebraska Air National Guard after 4 years of active duty.

my family and i visited the base in june of 2002. it was a very interesting trip. everyone there was so nice and helpful to us. we really enjoyed learning of the history that lives there. thanks from cincinnati.....
