It has been five years since you gave us your young life on behalf of the Hopi Nation and this country. We are extremely proud of you. You have continued to bring many peoples together to pray for your comrades and all our fallen heroes and to support those that survived - Jessica, Shoshana, Joseph, Patrick and all who have served. Greater love than this no one has. We pledge to uphold your sacrifice by working for love of each other and peace within our hearts, the hearts of our friends and community, so that ultimately there may be a chance for peace throughout the whole world.

My thoughts still go out to her friends and family. I think of her often and when I made Chief in the Navy we remembered people who passed. She was the first name that came to my mind. She will always be a hero to me. Bless all of you the friends and family of your great Soldier

From "Indian Country Today" 10/18/2007
“Native peoples scored a moral victory 4 years ago (with) the renaming of Squaw Peak to Piestewa Peak. The strong leadership of Arizona Gov. Janet Napolitano..made all the difference. Piestewa Peak is now a monument to the courage and pride of the young Hopi soldier, mother of two children, who made the ultimate sacrifice for her nation and country. It is a victory not only for Native Americans who share and admire Piestewa's traditional values, but for all Americans who believe in duty, honor and sacrifice.”
