Dear Jackie, I must say, I enjoyed browsing your website. I have two Maine Coons, Billy a nuetered cream tabby who was 1 this week, and Tallullah a blue tabby who is 10 months old. All I can say is that I have caught the bug! and I am totally addicted to my babies. They both live indoors and have the full run of the house, with they use to their great advantage. I am also in the process of having a little run at the side of my house to allow them access outside to they can enjoy our wonderful weather. We sadly lost our 11 year old dog, Bob, over a year ago but was too heartbroken to get another pet. We thought about it for a long time and decided the time wasn't right to bring a puppy in the home as we have 3 young children whom I'm constantly running around after and couldn't dedicate the training time. Also, Bob was so perfect I don't think anything could have come close. Anyway, the house felt so empty without a pet and I thought about Maine Coons as it was a breed I was interested 12 years ago when myself and my husband moved in together. We were about to start looking into finding breeders all those years ago when I was introduced to Bob by a friend, say no more! So, 12 years later, I found a breeder and adopted Billy. Within a week or two decided that it would be impossible to live in a 1 maine coon family, so we had a long 2 month wait for Tallullah. She settled in immediately, though it took Billy a day or two to get over his grumpy tantrums, but now they adore eachother. I am good friends with their breeder and after long discussions, and with her consent, thought I would look into breeding Tallullah. I thought it frugal to take her to a show before I made any decisions. I have since taken them to 2 FIFe shows. Billy hated the 1st show and was quite vile which is so unlike him. It was not a great introduction to showing but he got an EX 3 even though the judge refused to handle him! Tallullah did ok she got EX 4. The second show was more successful. Billy, though still not particularly happy, allowed the judge to handle him (just!) and he got EX 2. Tallullah also did well, who I must say was an absolute angel on both occassions, got EX 1. As she has done well, and the show's made me fall in love with the breed even more, I have decided to breed her. Here's where my problem lies, I'm finding it increasingly difficult to find a good stud. I don't know if this is commonplace or it's 'closed doors' to new breeders. I don't know. Do you have any open studs? If not, can you help? Could you give me quidance as to where to look. I realise a cat show is a good place to start but as a novice, felt a touch intimidated. really liked your web page, it came across peacefull, so sweet i liked the music and little butterflies. I see a maine coon cat a couple of wks ago at my vets and could,nt belive how big they are. am thinking of getting one in the near furture, as i adore cats.
