Just recently visited Ponce (Jan 11-18)
and wanted to let all know, the old
parade area out front of comm center
building, is no longer. They are building a new U.S.Army Reserve Center in its place. Whole field is completely
fenced in with tall orange web fencing
now. The one barracks, that was on opposite side of street from Security
building, has been leveled now and is
open to the old yard between the other
barracks that formed a quad. Rest of
base looks pretty much the same. You can
no longer drive down towards old public
works area and enlisted housing, as it
has been placed in a security area that
is off limits. 73's, "Misroute"

The army was there first...Ha ha....
I was stationed at Fort Allen from 1962
until the navy took over. I even was
part of the navy for a few months.
Loved the navy but had business to
settle at home or I would have became a
"Swabbe". I wished later I had taken the offer made by Cmdr. Hale......

Thanks to the people who put this website together. I was a kid at Ft. Allen in the early 60s and it is still the place with the best memories of my childhood. What kid could forget all the picnics and the trips to the beaches and the black snow from the burning cane fields. My father was a Chief Personnelman Harrell "Bud" Brannon.
