Greetings Shipmates from Waco, Tx,
Has there been any plans made for the next reunion. We unfortunately missed the reunion in Nashville. I had another committment that I had to honor. It has been 38 years since I have been at NavCommSta Puerto Rico, Ft. Allen. That was a memorable tour of duty. The field of communications has come a long way since then. It is a shame that the Navy saw fit to combine the Radioman rate with the Information Technologists. I will always consider myself a Radioman not an IT has is the case when I got out of the Navy. It would be good to hear from those of you that were at Ft. Allen from 1970 to 1971. Those were some great times that I will cherish forever.

I was stationed at Fort Allen from 1969 until 1971. I have enjoyed reading the comments from everyone - and recognize a few names. Does anyone know anything about the following individuals:
Ken Kay; Ron Rennie; Lars Jappe; Mike Keever; Wayne Morris
I married Sue Ellen Cale in 1973 (daughter of CWO3 George W. Cale) - and presently serve as the Dean of the College of Education at Augusta State University, Part of the University System of Georgia.

Fort Allenites:
At the request of Dennis Harrison, Son-in-Law (husband of Sue Ellen Cale) of George and Betty Cale. It is with deep sympathy, and condolences to their wonderful family that I am passing on this sad news.
Obituary for CWO3 George (Bud) Cale. Bud was the Security Officer a portion of the time that we were stationed at FT Allen (1969-1973). Many of you will remember him. Bud, Betty and JoAnn (their daughter) attended the FT Allen Reunion we hosted in Pensacola, FL in 2002; we reminisced about the good times we all shared while at the Fort.

The Watch
For many years
This sailor has stood the watch
While some of us were in our bunks at night
This sailor stood the watch
While some of us were in school learning our trade
This shipmate stood the watch
Yes.. even before some of us were born into this world
This shipmate stood the watch
In those years when the storm clouds of war were seen brewing on the horizon of history
This shipmate stood the watch
Many times he would cast an eye ashore and see his family standing there
Needing his guidance and help
Needing that hand to hold during those hard times
But he still stood the watch
He stood the watch for twenty years
He stood the watch so that we, our families and
Our fellow countrymen could sleep soundly in safety, Each and every night
Knowing that a sailor stood the watch
Today we are here to say
'Shipmate... the watch stands relieved
Relieved by those You have trained ,Guided, and Lead
Shipmate you stand relieved.. we have the watch..."
"Boatswain..Standby to pipe the side...Shipmate's going Ashore.."
CWO3 GEORGE "BUD" CALE, USN
"REST IN PEACE"

Forget my previous post. Dates way off! I was Stationed at Ft. Allen 70-73. Worked in the fleet center and then the Tech Control. What great memories. Bought a Honda 500 while there from Charlie, who owned the local bike shop ( They have since divorced and we saw Rena in San Francisco 10 years ago). Remember going to Ramey AFB to get all of our electronic gear (Reel to Reel tape deck, turn tables, amps etc.) Rincon to swim and snorkel, Ponce and it's town square and the red and white fire station.
The on-base bowling alley, pool, golf course and outdoor theater!
Some of the poeple that I remember were Jim Rhoades, Bob Schuldt, Tom Kaske, Kent Angle, Tom Duggan, EC Smith, Al Lemieux, John Rivett, JimMitchell, Mike Thomas, Jerry Davies and a number of others.
I also went home, got married and brought my new wife (Carol) back down for the last year. Lots of great memories. I've only seen Jim Rhoades and Bob Schuldt since I got out in 73.
Looking forward to seeing some of the guys in Oct 09 in St Louis.
