Very intersting to read your account of the 1st and 2nd Boer war. My two great aunts and 7 children, were rounded up by the Britsih and starved to death in blistering heat behind a circle of barbed wire! Such were the British, as cruel and mean as any s.s. It's too bad that history does not recall all these terrible incidents, then perhaps we would have less wars. Baden Powell who was a proffessional killer as far as I am concerned, it was men of his ilk who murdered Ned Kelly, and Striker Marrant (hope I have the spelling right), now we look up to the likes of people like him. Truly a confused world!

Read this site with great interest for I visited the Changi Chapel and Museum only four weeks ago on a hot morning. I remembered all those who were there, especially my father Joe Redfearn who had been attached to the 9th Northumberland Fusiliers and had been taken prisoner on 15th February 1942. He survived the railway of death and ended the war as a prisoner in Osaka, Japan. Wonder if anyone can remember him?

Ist Battle of Rafa, Eygypt, Jan 9th 1917. My grandfather, Capt Shirley George Kingsley, serving with 14 Squadron, RFC was injured in this battle and ditched his plane, a Martinsyde Elephant into the sea to stop in falling into enemy hands. He got an MC for his gallantry. I wonder if there are any relevant diaries etc from No 1 Squadron AFC, who I believe fought alongside the 14th at Rafah and elsewhere? I've enjoyed reading about the Elephant and seeing the pix. Thank you.

Battle of Long Tan – 18 Aug 1966. This is to give praise, admiration and thanks to all the personnel involved in our conflicts. Of particular note I have been recently been reading and researching The Battle of Long Tan, Vietnam, 18 Aug 66. If you want a good read, from inside D Coy 6RAR who were in the thick of it, get a hold of “The Battle of Long Tan as Told by the Commanders to Bob Grandin”. This is seat of your pants full throttle and you will not disappointed. You will, as do, have a greater respect for these guys in particular, but also for all service personnel. I served 20 years and this moved me greatly. BZ to all involved in this action, including support elements all the way back to the hospital.

Amazing results! In one day I now have a thirty three page document of my relative's WWI service history and found out that he was killed in action in Pozieres, France. He served with the 22nd, Battalion of the AIF and served in Egypt and the Dardanelles. He was just 21years old when a Court of Inquiry declared him Killed in Action. Thank you to Ted Harris for such speedy help. This information will be added to my family history and to his Grandfather's Diary.

I recently discovered I had a relative who joined the Australian Brigade and served in Egypt and the Dardanelles. His name was Percival Cousins. He later served in France. Any information about the Australian Brigade would be welcome. Thanks for this great site!
