Thank you for the website! My wife and I have one ADHD son and an Ausperger son, Evan. He is 14 and tomorrow we go for a pretrial hearing on aggravated assault. During school he assualted a teacher. The story is long and typical for an Ausberger child. The school didn't do its job as usual. He stabbed a child with a pencil after having been teased. The home room he was in was unsupervised and although he has a parapro she was not with him. Because of thie he was removed from the regular ed. We have had a 504 program for him althrough school but in junior high they wanted a special ed evaluation to pay for the parapro, he has had one since 2nd grade. The isolated him off campus in my office for evalution, and then attempted to teach him in a conference room after two weeks at my office. This went on from November until April 2. He was isolated from his peers and only had been allowed in regular ed in two classes when the assault occured. The para pro told him that he needed to leave the classroom, because she felt he was not incontrol. He left and came back because he wanted to finish his school work. She insisted and so as he left he pushed books off her desk, they say at her so he was charged with simple assault. The behavor interventionist stopped him in the hall on his was to the weigh room, they have him lift weights for deep muscle stimuation when he is out of control. She confronted him at which time he went into an empty classroom and held the door. When he left the door and began shoving desks in his frustration, she entered the room, at which time he attacked and injured her. No redirection, non of the procedure to de-esculate the problem were used. It has been a nightmare. He was suspended, and a court order issued to have him transported to a juvinile center, we instead took him to a juvenile program for evaluation which apeased the judge. On the 2nd day we were having a staffing at the center to determine what if any educational services we could procure since the home school district was unable an unwilling to have him back. In the middle of the staffing the doctor in charge released him and the bench order to transport him was inacted and he was sent to a juvenile detention center. The doctor didn't feel it medically necessary for him to stay in the facility, although later we determined that they had incorrectly medicated him, which would constitute a change in medication and would have required further care. He was sent by sheriff to the juvenile center, where he received no meds that night, non in the morning and only a limited dosage before they transported him back for the placement hearing. The county attorney was adamate that he be put somewhere, but no one would take him, because it was not necessary so they released him to us. We had previously filed complaints with many agencies over the problems with the school district and for the most part they have been ignored. Civil rights violations, 504, and IDEA violations don't seem to be a high priority even though they lead up to the events above. Hopefully, we will have a sentence of probation at worst, but you never no with the court system and people who don't understand. If there are any legal resources out there you need to link them especially on you sight, because with the mood of the courts, this will not be an isolated incident. A lot of autistic children may be run through the court system as juvenile delinquents if their rights are continued to be ignored by schools. Thanks Chuck

This web site is amazing! There is so much info here that is going to help me to be a better advocate for my son and for that I thank you. So much of what I have read could of come out of my own mouth and to know that there are other parents out there that are sharing similar experiences is so comforting to me. For a long time I felt like I was alone but since I have been on the internet I cannot believe what an answer to prayer it has been. Thank you again for creating such an exceptional website that is SO INFORMATIVE, but more importantly the love that you have for your son comes through so clearly that it adds an extra dimention that for me mirrored my feelings and thoughts for my own son... Thanks again
