Thank you for your website so little is
availabel about the white tail. I find
myself haveing t tell my doctor how to
treat me as so little is known.I was
bitten over 7 years ago when putting
on my pants . I was biten on my
buttock in twoards the inner cheek.I
actually squished the spider. Initially
it only itched and was sore. Then
over a month later I found a painful
lump that was diagonosed as a boil
at first right whre I was bitten. I have
tried antibiotics many times and
other herbal things as well.
Unfortunatly it seem to of created a
perianal opening now. This
periodically heals up. At one point for
2 years, then it opens again and
another painful painful abcess and
smelly boil. If it just never healed
and always stayed open then I guess
I would just accept it ,but it has
healed 4 times no,so I feel their is a
answer. Surgery would be too drastic
in this area and would most likely
leave me anally incontinent or
without half a buttock. So no way.
They now say what is happening is
recuring bouts of staph in this area.
Please anyone with any suggestions
email me . The right
antibiotic,treatment anything .It is
currently in a post boil staph healing
stage like an open ulcer. help

I am an Australian living in Wellington NZ at the moment and have noticed the white tail spider is becoming more common over here. Have noticed a couple in my house already. I decided to look into a web site about the spider, because I needed to see a picture of one to make sure the spider I have seen in my house is infact the White Tail. Nasty little creature. Good on you Helen for helping people become aware of the spider and what treatments can be used to help ease the pain.

Thankyou for your informative site it seems there are quite a few people that have fallen victim to the white tail I can only assume the bite I received was from the same spider. All symptoms are exact in detail and the area I was bitten was in was thick scrub (no shoes) with a lot of leaf litter covering the floor, prime habitat for this species.
I spent between 9-10 months in a great deal of pain with 4 ulcers in the arch of my foot 6 years later there is still a slight discoloration at the original bite site. By memory I read years ago that certain species of wolf spider have also been blamed for Necrotising arachnidisim has this since been proven/ disproven?
Keep up the good work!

Thank you for your informitive information. I have not been biten by the spider but do have them in my house. Should I fumigate the entire house or am I being a bit over the top.
