Served from 1971 to 1974 after transfer from the USS Preble DLG-15. The Reeves was a great ship with an even greater crew!

Served on board 79-81, would have stayed longer but stayed in Hawaii during cross deck with CG 18. Warhore 24 was the greatest of 4 CG's I served on during my 20-year career. From the first moment I step on board as a FTM3. When FTMC Ford said those first words welcome aboard. The ship had an Aura of comraderie. Next thing I remember him saying is that we work hard and play hard, follow me I’ll show you around and get you a rack. Then there was meeting CAPT Ming Chang and his Mickey Mouse watch in his cabin. He met everyone that checked on board and gave the speech. My chief’s run my ship. Wish that was done and said by ever CO I met. I bet all of you will agree with me that every ship has a personality and you feel it the moment you step on board. USS REEVES was the greatest by far. Fox Division gang. Just about everyone had a nickname (Radical Jack, Smoch, Killer Klesiks). Never a dull moment! The stories I could tell.

I served on the Reeves from 66 through 68. I remember endless weeks in the Gulf of Tonkin, rescuing downed aviators, doing an ECM run into the approaches to Haiphong Harbor, the fire at sea in our after missle house, and the helicopter crash on the fantail near Okinawa. Great memoroes and great shipmates. Any of you who remember Ensign Johnson, send me an email.
