My friend AT2 Anthony Hanson flew off the Reeves Combat SAR I believe it was in June of 1967, he was awarded the Navy Cross for dropping off the rescue cable searching for the Airforce pilot who had both legs broken in the ejection, Anthony splinted the pilots legs then dragged him several hundred feet to a small clearing where they were both hoisted out. At the time he was in HC-1 but i don't recall the SAR Det number. I would like for his heroic actions to be made a permanent part of the USS reeves history. This was the highest award given to Navy enlisted Combat Rescue Aircrewmen in the Viet Nam war. And just for kicks Ltjg Clyde Lasson flying from the DLG Preble 15 was awarded the Medal of Honor for a simialr rescue in 1969 see hc7seadevils.com.. All us hel people loved the DLG's i guess i cruised on all except the Reeves.

I was an FTM2 when I reported to the Bremerton Pre-Com crew. I worked in WCS/WDE. I am trying to locate any FT that served in USS Reeves from commissioning (MAY 1964) until OCT 1965. Please email me or call me at 856-524-2216.

The Reeves' was my most pleasant naval experience. Ironmen, full steam, and firepower were never matched at any other of my duty stations. From 1990 to '93, Yokosuka to Pearl Harbor, the Reeves gave me pride to share with future shipmates everywhere. Our crew was not only feared by the enemy, but also defeated newer-Class destroyers during drills and challenges. We all have been blessed with the opportunity to cross her brow, and cruise under her protection.
