I was a quartermaster on the Reeves from 1974 to 1978. I served with 3 captains; Fontaine, Dickman and Chang. By far, Dickman was the best. I have very fond memories of Westpacs 75 and 77 and kept both cruise books.I am eager to hear from my former shipmates.

Comments:
I wasn't assigned to the Reeves, but I was on the USS Cochrane DDG-21 from 88 to 90. The reason I felt like leaving a note is because I remember the Reeves being struck on the Bullnose by a 500 lb bomb in 89 as the Cochrane docked inside the "Footprint of Freedom" in the I/O. The bomb was dropped by an F18 pilot from the Midway. The significance to us on the Cochrane is that we turned over the tow target that day to the Reeves. We had been towing it the whole cruise and I personally helped pull in the near mile long line several times. No one was killed, but several good sailors were injured by the blast. I hope all recovered well including the OOD who wore a neck brace from the blast shock wave when I spoke to him two days after the accident.

I reported on board the Reeves in February 1972 as an MMFN and left April 1975 as an MM2. The Reeves was my only ship so it was the best. My entire sentence was served in the after engine room. I thoroughly enjoy reading everyone's comments. Who would have thought that such a small snapshot in each of our lives would have such a long term impact. I recognized several old hands from my era, i.e. Ted Gough, Tommy Rotman, Steve Tinker, Bruce Isaak, and Mike McCann. I remember hearing real "sea stories" about some other names which appear in the guestbook. I remember many last names, several nicknames and a few complete names. The Sullivan brothers - Sully and Turtle; Duck Johnson; Bucky; Larry Lincoln; Imes; Sanford; Vic Johansen; Perry Saylor; Hog Head; Wooly; Fish; Fotscky; Cairo. Does anyone remember port and starboard duty, 6 on and 6 off and midrats. A sincere "Thank You" to everyone who has signed the guestbook. Work is a little slow on this day before Thanksgiving and I wanted to say thank you to everyone I had the opportunity of serving with and thank you to those who served before and after me on the USS Reeves.

I am researching USS Reeves (CG 24). I am looking for information on two events, (1) the Historic port visit to China in 1986 and (2) USS Reeves' involvement in Operation Earnest Will in 1987. Please email me if you have anything that you would like to share.
