As a member of the crew 1969 - 1971 .. I was there to watch this Sweetheart of a ship as she set sail for the very first time. Recomisioned, with an Honor Guard, Flags, and all the men dressed in their whites, a band playing and the Capt. saying " Bring her to Life".. Oh what a feeling this was. A feelng that was like watching your first born. I loved that ship and all it's glory. It was shipmates that were part of the best team the Navy could muster together. We took her to her home port Hawaii and onward to WESPAC.. May she rest in peace. John Duree, David Hardcastle, Or Steve Jarvis or anyone even MadDog Charie Could remeber this time Please e-mail me. I have never forgotten you.

I served on the Reeves from 72-76 as an OS3. I remember being transfered to the Reeves via a helo in the Gulf Of Tonkin. I was seasick on and off for two months, heavy waves from typhoon, until, after our 9 days stop in Hong Kong. Since then, I have never been seasick. I still have good memories of all the ship and its crew. I will never forget the places we visited, Hong Kong, Japan, Philipines, Taiwan, Singapore etc. Hawaii was great! I went back to Oahu in 98: the island has really changed. The hills are now obliterated with houses and there is now another highway that runs from Honolulu over the mountains to Kaneohe. This stetch of road is called the H3 Highway. What a work of construction this is: took over twenty years to construct this highway. If any of you can a chance to go back to Oahu suggest you take this road from Kaneohe over to Waikiki. When you come out of the tunnel it is quite a sight!

Reeves was my home from 5/87 to 6/92 where I lived, worked, slept and ate.Reported to her in Yokosuka,Japan and rode her to her final final port in Pearl Harbor in 1990.B-division forward boiler room, upper level was my work station (BT3).Went through some good times and bad aboard her and was sad to hear of her demise, last time I set foot aboard was 1996 while working in the boiler repair shop at SIMA the outside was rusted and in bad shape, however when cracked open the aft starboard hatch the inside was as crisp and clean as I remembered her when I departed 4 years earlier.Although she's gone I will always have my fond memories of ship and crew.
