For those who are interested. I am based at RAF Wethersfield where it is now also used for the training of the "normal" British Bobby as well as for the training of MOD police. I am amongst the 2nd batch of trainees for the national police force. After training I will be working in Watford, Hertfordshire. All the best to you who have memories of the shifting weather patterns of Wethersfield!!!

Too cool. I was TDY to Wethersfield
from Upper Heyford for the 1975 U-2
deployment. Three _great_ months. We
opened Base Ops and sat around doing
nothing cuz MOD thought the black U-2s
too "sinister." Had some pet ferrets which I used to deter bird activity on the airfield- er, sorry, aerodrome.
Opened a rifle rangeinside the Base Ops building. Hunted crows in the old Alert
area. We had bought out all air pellets within 10 miles, so one day the "guv",
Maj. Tom Williamson, and I were in one of the Colne villages looking for a sporting goods store. We were both in uniform. I noticed people looking at us, funny-like. A man approached us and said he was Mayor. They hadn't seen any Yanks in town since the War, and could they please buy us a ploughman's in the local? Cor - blow us over. The Mayor sent somebody out for ur pellets, while Tom and I enjoyed their company and a free lunch. God Bless Wethersfield!

I was station at RAF Wethersfield from 1969 until the fall of 1970 when a lot of us in supply were sent to Incirlik Air Base Turkey. I worked in the base supply computer room. I wish I had known then that things would never be that good again. Wish I could find my friends Charles and Joyce Towner in Hedingham.

Good to see a website dedicated to this fascinating Cold War "Ghost" and especially loved the photos of the old jets such as the mighty Thud and the Hun. Unlike many ex USAF airfields Wethersfield is still very much alive and kicking!

This is the second time I have signed in your guestbook. I now how a different email. Since first signing in, I have had a very heartwarming response from some wonderful people helping me in the seach of my father Norman James Wilmot to whom I am very grateful. I now know that he was in the 20th Air Squadron (AF19488018) and that he married my mother Margaret Chapman in Chelmsford on February 16th 1963 when he was 27. I believe that he was origninally from Oregon. I would love to hear from anybody who may have any more information.
