Made a mistake in my last entrance. It was the T-33 making the touch and go landings.

I was at Wethersfield in the mid-50's and my late wife Pauline (from Ireland!!) joined the Aero Club. On March 14, 1957, while waiting for a bus to go to the mess hall for dinner, I saw a mid-air collision a couple of miles from the end of the runway. I immediately ran back into my office of the Reclaimation Yard (20th Field Maint. Sqdn.), called the tower and told them what I had just seen and told everyone in the yard that we were going to the crash site immediately. We were the first ones at the scene of the crash of one of the planes and it was terrible to say the least. John Watkins, the instructor pilot in the Aero Club was in the T-33 that was hit by a F-84 just after the F-84 had made a touch and go. When I told Pauline about what happened to John (who incidently, was a very nice guy), she said she no longer wanted to learn how to fly and we left the Aero Club. Now she is flying around with the other angels!!

Noticed very few people from 1964-1967 era. Remember some of John's men: Katz and Tony who married an English girls ,Col.(?) Apgar , who returned to The States, ,John, who came from CT,wish I could remember more names.
Then my neighbors on Mitchell Circle: Del and Judy Hoover, Bob and Phyll Pruett, The Knights, Peg and Len Polomski, Mac and Deana and his huge car which was the pride of his life.It was the best assignment in many ways although the weather was so terrible most of the time. Our daughter, Lisa, attended the base kindergarten and first grade-- Juanita Palaan, kindegarten teacher and Shirley Mills as first grade instructor, both excellent.Often wonder what happened to all after we rotated home in May, 1967. John passed away October, 2009, at age 85.
Noticed in a prior posting, a fellow mentioned Christine Nunn, who appeared in a photo. She was my hairdresser for the 3 years there- lovely young girl.
Hope that fellow reads this and can tell me of her whereabouts. My email is mamegeaski@myfairpoint.net

We were stationed at RAF Wethersfied 1964-1967. Husband , MEG, was NCOIC of 20th A & E. Lived at 457B Mitchell Circle. Good duty for John. Hated the weather, but loved monthly trips to London. Would love to hear from any old friends-- Judy Hoover, Phil Pruett, still stay in contact with 2 pals from RAFW days. Remember horrible Mushroom Farms and the trailor park. Remember good squadron parties at NCO Club and the fine people who served in the 20th A & E
