Great site - super job! While memory may go with age, some memories last. I was in the 2163rd Comm Squadron from '67-70 and was an air traffic controller assigned to GCA. These were some of the happiest years of my life. I'll never forget my arrival - light rain and spitfires and mishersmits flying everywhere. They were filming the Battle of Briton at nearby Stansted. I thought I was in a time warp. My wife and I married at Our Lady Queen of Peace in Braintree and lived in the Beverly Hills area of Mushroom Farms. :) We loved Braintree and the restaurants. Can't locate any of those now. I keep saying we will return someday. Thus far, the closest I've been is Google Earth and unfortunately, nothing is recognizable. Only restaurants I see listed is the likes of Mickey D, Dominos, Burger King, etc. - what happened to Goodwin's Fish and Chips and Rose's Chinese restaurant. At least the White Hart is still there. Oh well, life goes on.

I just read Bob Reese's message about getting written up for wearing Levis in the snack bar on base. I was stationed in the 20th Field Maint. Squadron in the 50's and my late wife, Pauline had just given birth to our second son, Eugene. Her father, Joseph O'Dea was over visiting us from Ireland and giving me sort of a break. We were living at 86 Rayne Road at the time. I went out for a little walk to the store around the corner when the Air Police pulled up and started telling me about wearing Levis being a no-no. Using my best borrowed English accent, I asked what right did they have telling me what to wear on my own street in my own town and my own country. After my little diatribe, they apologized profusely and left me on my own. I should have hit them up for a cigarette or as they were called then, a fag, but I forgot. Did anyone else live in Braintree at that time? My phone number is 702-732-8276. Give me a call. OK?
