Late 1944/45, I was a driver in the Army
RASC, and we were stationed at various places in Essex.A lot of the time at Great Leighs, and often in convoys, parked up on the roadside. We delivered supplies to the Air Base, but I cannot remember much about it. I do remember the Mushroom Farm, on quite a few occasions, we slept in our lorries outside the sheds, and were fascinated to see how mushrooms were grown on a commercial scale.

I am hoping to hear from anyone who knew my brother, Lt. John I. Watkins, 55th, pilot, who was stationed at Wethersfield Air Base between 54 and 57. He was killed in a tragic air accident on March 11, 1957, when his plane collided with another on their approach to the base. He was active in the Officer's Club and the Aero Flying Club, and I believe that one of those buildings was named in his honor. If you knew him, or if you have any information about him, I would appreciate an e-mail. Many thanks.

59-62, 4th TDS. Have revisited RAFW on 1 occasion in 95. Could not gain access to the base. But visited several of the small towns in the area as well as a couple of the Pubs in Finchingfield. Still looked the same. Would love to hear from anyone I was stationed with.

Stationed at Wethersfield from Dec. 83 to Dec. 85. This was my first assignment as a Security Policeman. What a great way to start my Air Force career. Worked a lot of Main Gate and Munitions. The only thing that ever kept us busy were those roudy Red Horse troops. I am so glad that recruiter that told me I had a 98% chance of getting stationed at McConnell in Wichita was wrong. Names I remember from that era: Larry Smith, Bob Taylor, Rick Cardene, John Gallagher, Casey Ray, John Kelly. I'll try to send pictures.
