POFW-SMENFI News Release (Sept. 15, 2002)
Foundation to hold free legal & medical services, other livelihood activities
for OFW and SME families in Parañaque City
In support of Pres. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo’s concern for the welfare and benefit of the country’s eight million plus overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and their families as well as in response to the government’s efforts to support the development of small and medium entrepreneurs (SMEs), the Pamilyang OFW-SME Network Foundation Inc. (POFW-SMENFI) announced yesterday the holding of several activities for the OFW and SME families starting on Sept. 23 at the Pearl Plaza in Parañaque City.
POFW-SMENFI is behind several projects for the OFW families since 1998 in coordination with government agencies and non-government organizations concerned with the OFW and SME families. It holds office at No. 53 18th Ave., Murphy, Quezon City with tel. nos. 912-58-03 and 437-16-60.
POFW-SMENFI President George Arriola said the Pearl Plaza -- which is only five minutes away from the Ninoy Aquino International Airport -- is a perfect venue for OFW family events because of its proximity to the airport, Department of Foreign Affairs, Overseas Workers Welfare Administration, and foreign embassies. It is also a nice place for SME family activities since it is strategically located at the heart of the country’s trade and convention capital, in close proximity to the Makati business center. It has 8 parking levels that can accommodate 1,000 vehicles.
Arriola said the following are the activities scheduled at the Pearl Plaza:
* Livelihood seminars: Pasta and Noodle Making (Sept. 23), Basic Meat Processing (Sept. 24), Cookies and Tarts Making (Sept. 258), Siopao and Dimsum Making (Sept. 26), and Tokwa, Tofu, Miso and Soya Milk Making (Sept. 27);
* Free legal services in cooperation with Atty. J. Oswald B. Lorenzo & Associates Law Firm which is actively helping OFWs and their families in their fight for justice (Saturdays, starting Oct. 5); and
* Free medical services in cooperation with Dr. Emmanuel Campaña of the Manila Medical Society and Medical Center Manila (Sundays, starting Oct. 6).
