I have been searching for my grandparents who emigrated to the US around 1900. There was reference to Marien, but this is the closest I have come to locating their birth place. Their names wer Otto and Theresa Roessler - maiden name may be Sistal, Swistal, Zazdral. Unclear on documents.

I have learned that there were Appelhans members in this village. I am trying to learn their relationship to my Appelhans family from Rothammel, Russia. My father was Jacob Appelhans son of Jacob and Christina (Frank) Appelhans. My father was born in Rothammel on 8 December 1889.

Just did a Google search for Volga Germans and came across your site. Read the book review of Sister's book. I had an aunt who left the colony to go to Germany to be a Nun. Sr. Lawrencia Steinbach. She kept up a correspondence with my Grandmother, Barbara Schell, Rupert, Idaho. My Uncle Albert Schell visited Sr. Lawrencia at the end of WWII. He said that it was the greatest moment of his life. Sister used to say that her nephews would come from America to help the sisters. He brought a jeep load of food and coffee to them. Thanks for a nice site. May God bless you, Fr.Tom Loucks tloucks@myspps.org
