Kwai my friends,
I am 62 years of age and although I've been a native Vermonter all my life, it
is just recently that I have decided to
become a supporter of my Abenaki circle of life. There ia a burning desire to see our people succeed in developing into a recognized, prospering community
in the North East Kingdom.
I was born in East Charleston, VT (1941)
and have a great respect for our native
Green Mountains and the original people who walked it's sacred trails. There is
a little story that I would like to share with you, it is called - Together
We Win!
There is a small tribe of Native People in Nebraska know as the Poncas. A story is told of two young braves who had to stay behind while the men went out on a
hunting trip to supply food for the old and the young in their camp.
The day came for the men to return home and the two young braves went out on a hill, to watch for the return of the hunting party. From where they were, they could see the men coming home; but
much closer, they saw an enemy tribe who had lost all respect for their fellow man. The hunting party was to far away to reach the camp in time, the enemy would strike and kill many children, elders and women before the men could arrive to defend their camp.
A decision had to be made, the two young braves had ridden to top of the hill on
a single pony. They had one bullet with which to defend themselves against the enemy. They could split up and one would
be left alone to face the enemy, or they
could both get on the pony and ride away
letting the enemy kill their families.
After a moment of thought, one young brave shouted out "Shoot the horse" this way they would stand shoulder to shoulder and keep the enemy busy until the hunting party could reach the camp and defend what was theirs...
Today, we have to make a choice, will we let our brother stand alone against the enemy that wants to devour our families?
Or will we simply get on the pony and ride off into the sunset? There is a third choice - We can shoot the horse! This way we remove any possibility of running away from our reponsibility of
standing united against the many enemies that would bring our people down - Like
The Young Ponca Brave - Let's Shoot The
Horse!!!
Respectfully
Michael LittleFawn Jensen

As clan secretary and better yet as Clan Grandmother, (named by Grandfather Phillip Soaring Eagle) I am going to ask that the people who are using this site for a public debate to STOP. It shows that you are not following the path that Creator put you on. Actually it shows that you are not quite grown up yet. If any of you have any questions concerning the drum or other issues with the Clan of the Hawk do as Chief Spirit Water suggest... WRITE TO HIM... or better yet write to me, but be brave enough to leave an e-mail where I can answer your foolish questions and settle some of your fears.

After visiting your grounds this summer at powwow time I am truly impressed with all that was going on and with all that I saw. The grounds are beautiful, especially around the river down by the medicine wheel. I could imagine it without all of the hussle and bussle of the festivity. Everyone that we met was gracious and very helpful with information if we needed it. Keep up the good work with all that you do! Someday soon we are planning on returning to visit again.
Thank You
