John, thank you for your research in this critical matter. When I found some reliable evidence that the destruction of Jerusalem occured in 587/6 BCE, I sought to find who was right--historians or the WTS. I am thankful for the research you have done on your own, because now I have the means to escape the Org. by dismantling their main argument, the 607 - 1914 fallacy. What I found particularly disturbing in Bethel's reply to you is that they consider "secular history as merely advisory." Shouldn't secular history support the Bible, and vice versa? Apparently not, when it goes against their Adventist and Millerite-inspired calculations. Knowing this, I cannot stay in the Org. if it uses lies to calculate Lord Jesus' return. All my friends and much of my extended family are in "the truth," as this lifestyle is the only way I have known, but I will make the tough decision soon enough. Hi John, i've been successfully fading for nearly a year and post somewhat regularly on JWD, you? i attempted to email you, but it was returned. anyway, a wit-friend of mine has invited me to share with her what she believes are questions and doubts (although i have already had my questions and doubts answered). specifically she has requested that i provide her with secular evidence of 587 BCE... someone has borrowed my CoC book from which i was going to extrapolate references. does you "gentile times..." have references i might be able to use? of course no "apostate" literature... she is of the opinion that anything secular is safe though... little does she know that anything secular will mostly be apostate to her thinking... thanks in advance, Calliopé

thank you for the information on 607, i have ordered "the gentile times reconsidered" and am looking forward to reading it. i too struggled with finding out that the "truth" was less than truthful, however I have not yet been able to tell my mom or sister as I fear that they will shun me, I will have to work that out slowly.
