Why the fight over 607 vs 587?
All you are doing is arguing over the destruction of Jerusalem. Jehovah's Witnesses are not interested in the destruction of Jerusalem. We are interested in the beginning of the Times of the Gentiles so we can find the end. The beginning of the times of the Gentiles is not dependant on the destruction of Jerusalem.
I am one of Jehovah's Witnesses and I don't think that 607 vs 587 is important. Historians say that
Jerusalem was destroyed in 587 BCE. Fine.
Our objective is not the destruction of Jerusalem but the beginning of the Times of the Gentiles.
Why, when Carl Olaf Jonsson wrote the book, Gentile Times Reconsidered, did he not actually
reconsider the Gentile Times? All he did was argue 607 vs 587 for the destruction of Jerusalem
To reconsider the Gentile times, he would have reconsidered when they started. Since history shows
that Jerusalem was destroyed in 587 BCE, then going by the Bible, the gentile times began in 607 BCE.
It is not an argument of 607 vs 587 because you have your 587 for the destruction of Jerusalem,
we have our 607 for the beginning of the Gentile times and thus 1914 as the end of them.

Thank you. I have been studying with the witnesses for nearly a year and I've found this teaching, as well as others, did not sit right with me. I have been searching the web and local libraries for months and although I found fact after fact supporting 587 B.C, I could not bring myself to show this to the sister I have been studying with. So when I stumbled upon your site, and read what you went through, I knew I had to show her what i now know to be truth. Again thank you from the bottom of my heart and God Bless!

What is missing here is that, just before Nabopalassar there supposed to be two kings. They are Ashurbanipal and Kandalanu. Ashurbanipal supposed to reign at least 42 years and Kandanlanu supposed to reign at least 21 years, but here is the problem. That is according to 1970- 1971, p. 1 of Journal of Cunieform of Studies, Kandalanu was a king's name for Ashurbanipal. It is a strong possibilty that they both are the same person. If so, the traditonal chronology must be push back at least several years.
