Inez and I wish to extend our thanks to Jim and Elaine for the great job that they did in arranging the 2004 reunion. It was so good to see all those who were able to attend it, and we had a wonderful time in Branson. We enjoyed all of the shows, meals, etc. and they certainly go "all out" to remember the Veterans. We hope we can all be together again in two years, and that even more of the 567th can attend.

Marian and I attended the 2004 reunion and want to thank Jim and Ellaine for the wounderful job they did on the gathering. We had a wounderful time and hope to be able to do it again in 2006. It was great seeing all the old familiar faces. Marian has always said "it does not make any difference how long it has been since you've seen a military friend, it's like there has been no gap." Every time we go to a military base, it's like returning home. We loved Branson and would not mind doing it again. No matter where it is we'll try to make it to the next one.

My dad, George Spilker, was the civilian telephone maintenance person during the period 1961- 1965. He spoke with pride his working with the AF in keeping the land line communications available to the sites near Davenport and Wilbur connected to FAFB. I was only in grade school then; the only recollection I have of seeing one of the Atlas missiles was when I was playing Little League baseball at FAFB one summer evening (as a catcher) and the umpire calling "Time Out!" while one of the de-activated missiles was transported on a base road next to the ballfield. Imagine 18 young kids, jaws slack, watching while watching one of those BIIIIIG Atlas missiles go by! Anyway, just before my dad passed away (spring 2003) I had the honor of escorting him on a tour of the 567 SMS exhibit at the Museum at FAFB (I am an AF retiree) He recognized lots of items there; the sights of the sites got him chattering about "those iced tanks and being escorted around with men holding rifles..." I wondered if any of you remembered him...Thanks for the website; hope to hear from somebody who remembers a friendly civilian telephone guy... Dave Spilker, USAF (retired)

Dear Members
I have always felt the web site should be dedicated to remembering what we accomplished. I feel that it should still be so dedicated. The following is from the Home Page.
"THIS IS THE UNOFFICIAL WEB SITE OF THE 567TH STRATEGIC MISSILE SQUADRON. IT IS NOT AFFILIATED WITH THE DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE OR THE U.S. AIR FORCE. IT IS THE RESULT OF THE COMBINED EFFORTS OF THE FORMER MEMBERS. THE SOLE PURPOSE IS TO KEEP ALIVE THE ACCOMPLISHMENTS OF THE UNIT AND ITS CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE NATIONAL DEFENSE DURING THE COLD WAR."
I know that there are members who feel strongly about certain subjects and that others would disagree with them. I have taken great pains with the squadron web site to not allow it to be turned into a political forum. I have also turned down requests from a couple of members to place commercial ad's on the site.
This is going to be a very divisive election, much more than the last. I have received e-mail from some members supportive of the president and some critical of him. And, yes one or two supporting Kerry. I do not believe that our squadron web site should be a forum. There are a great many other forums for everyone to express their feelings on this election and other subjects.
An other way that I protect the purpose of the site is the automatic e-mail notification that I receive every time there is a posting on the squadron bulletin board. I check out each and every one. There have been some postings that have had links to non related web sites. Some of these sites are quite objectionable. These postings were deleted.
As Always. If anyone has something to add to the web site that meets the stated purpose, please forward your input to me.
I hope that the majority of you agree with what I have tried to accomplish.
I plan on having a great time at the reunion. Sorry that more of you can not attend. I will post pictures on the site as soon as I get home (about 1 Oct.). I have already set up the 2004 reunion page that is accessible from the Home Page and LINKS frame.
