I was with HHC, 36th Engineers in Vinh Long from March, 1969 to March, 1970. Some called me "Meatball". I worked in supply, and I went on supply runs to Can Tho once or twice a week in a 3/4 truck with anyone I could find to ride shotgun. I must have been crazy because we never had a communication radio. We always let the civilians "clear the mines first" before we set out. I think I have found one person so far I know on this site.

Corrected-I was with D Co in 1969 & 1970. Drove a water truck, road grader, and ten ton. Names I remember, Johnson, Ferry, Nussbaum, Ybarra, Pitts, Thompson, Banks, Collins, DiNofrio, Nelson, Thenes, Barrios, Stages, LaBrecque, Fekete, Burns, Douglas, Gentry, Wilson, Jones. I have pictures of these men, if you would like a picture of yourself back in the old days holler at me. Please state subject in your email. My friends called me "Pop" because I had already been a year in RVN with the 14th Engrs in 1967-68.

My Uncle was a Green Beret in the Viet Nam War, his name is Walter E. Garley. I am and was always so proud of him. I was ashamed of the way the country he served treated him upon his return to the U.S. I was often ashamed of our family not supporting him more than we did. But I was never ashamed of him. I love Uncle Batiste
