SOUGHT: As a pro' Germanic genealogist & son of a 601st AC&W vet, I seek anecdotes (good or bad) about my deceased father, William Burton Sala, then a radio mechanic 1-2-striper. Interestingly, he would later retire as NCOIC @ NATO'S hole-in-the-side-of-a-mountain near Izmir, Turkey, whence I graduated high school in '72. I later grad from BYU. Dad went on to live & ultimately die in Jan'96 in Kassel, whence he married my mother in the early 50s. PHOTOS: I have some Rothwesten people photos: one has Dad singing with "Warwzaniak, Henderson & Smith," (& 1 guy unnamed) June 1952 [2 guys are playing an A7 chord on their guitars]; another shows "Rothwesten Radio Maintenance Crew" of 6 guys; another: "Radio Mechanics of 601st AC&W Sq. I wasn's at Rothwesten myself but I married a girl who was born in Kassel and worked for an officer at Rothwesten when she was a young girl.

Update. Now retired to Naples Fl. Have been in touch with several friends from this site that served with me '61-'64 at Rothwesten and Sembach. Hope this catches the eye of several other old buddies.

Amazing how many Det 3's actually existed in the 601st TCS. I was part of Det 3 when it was the Alzey site from 68 - 72. Radio ops. Was back in 2004 only to find a veritable junkyard. The Turnhalle was still in Orbis and now had indoor plumbing. Thanks for a good site to remember some really goods times.
