The local PBS Television Station WJXT TV 7.4 (Digital) here in Jacksonville, Florida featured a special program this evening (09/13/2008) "Appalachians". The early WELC-AM radio was profiled. I was very impressed and curious to see if the current WELC was keeping with tradition. I'm still impressed. You have a diversified format which is perfect for the market. Since I am from a small town myself (Sparta, Tennessee) I retain a special fondness for the small town radio station. I've been in this business for over forty years and finally worked my way up a little. I am the Program Director, Chief Operator, Engineer here at a popular radio station in a city of one and one half million people. Sure is a big change from a community where everybody knows everybody. But, if I had the opportunity, I'd go back to the small town radio station atmosphere; that's where real folks are real folks.
