My fathers relatives came from Vilna...my grandfather and grandmother. They emigrated to the use in 1907 and 1897 respectively. I'm sure that many of their brothers and sisters perished or emigrated in later years.

Though my great grandfather left Vilna for Odessa, I know that some relatives remained behind and saw their names in ledgers of the Vilna Ghetto. May this never happen again in the history of mankind!

I am currently in a play written by joshua sobol called Ghetto. This is an interpretation of what occurred in the ghetto at Vilna. I have gone to great lengths to find acurate accounts of what happened in Vilna and must say that the horrific pictures and accounts of death that i have seen make me very thankful that i am not in the same position that the character that i play was.

Both my parents, now deceased, came from Vilna. Their names were Nochum Soffer and Rita Rutztejn (Rutstein). My parents were unwilling and unable to tell me complete stories. I am trying to gather more information about them for my children.
