William Beaton (1774-1834), of Siaba, Mull, took his family to Canada in 1830. My father and I identified 1950 descendents of William and his wife Cathrine McFee. We were unable to verify a genology before William although listings of such a geneology were found in several branches of the family. I did locate the registration of the birth of William's youngest daughter in parish records archived in Edinburgh. Earlier parish records had been destroyed.
I read with interest your account of the fate of Siaba / Shiaba some 20 years after William left. It confirmed our understanding that it was more profitable to raise sheep than Beatons.
I have near-identical pictures of Siaba, taken during a visit to the site in 1969. The trip from Bunnesan to the farm was arranged by the late Dr. Gray. He also provided me with much information about the background setting of the family as well as introducing me to other Beatons living in or near Bunnesan. We were unable to establish family links.
I am very appreciative of your efforts to preserve and make available the early history of Mull and its inhabitants.

I have just returned from watching a play about the potato famine on the Ross of Mull by Willie Orr. It prompted me to search the web for more information about Shiaba. I have enjoyed looking through the website. Thank you, Bill
