My son, Gabriel was born at 30 weeks. He weighted 3# 1oz. He spent 5 weeks in NICU. He was a resporator for a week. Because of my severe preclampsia and the magnesium I was on he was on 4 different b/p meds to keep his up. He got some kind of infection, the drs still don't know what kind, but he got over that in about 1 week. He had one seizure and had some frontal lobe bleeding in his brain. Both are gone now. He was about 3 weeks old when he was finally able to start the bottle. When he came home from the hospital he wieghted a healthy 4# 12oz. Now at 3 months, 3weeks adjusted, he weights a womping 10#. He's still on the apnea monitor but has not had any episodes for about 5 weeks now.

My little boy Kaden was born on May 1, 2004 at 28 weeks, weighing 2 lb 2.9 oz. He is my first baby. The doctors don't know why I went in to preterm labor. Before he was born, I spent a week in the hospital on magnesiun sulfate, laying on an incline with my feet above my head. I also got the steroid shots to help develop his lungs, like I'm sure most all of you had too. He spent 83 days in the NICU, with relatively minimal problems. He had an open PDA, which took about two months to close. He got really sick when he was about three weeks old, and we thought we might loose him. But he pulled through, and the neonatologist still doesn't know why he got sick. The biggest problem he had to overcome was learning how to eat on his own. He just didn't want to come off the feeding tube! Luckily he didn't have to come home on any oxygen or apnea monitors, unlike many of his friends in the NICU. He is now almost five months old, or 8 weeks adjusted age. He is doing great! He weighs 7 lbs and is 20 inches long. At his last doctors visit a week ago, his pediatrician said he is doing the best out of all her preemie patients and she can't see any side effects of his prematurity so far. We are so blessed to have such a little angel in our lives! We had countless prayers answered and we thank God every day to have him in our lives. Feel free to email me! I love to talk to other parents of preemies.

What a wonderful site I have come across! Our daughter Katherine just celebrated her 1st Birthday! She was born at 31 wks 4days, doesn't sound bad right? Well, due to my placenta along with an incomp. cervix she weighed in at a whopping 1lb 12oz and 13 1/2in. Basically the size of a 24 weeker. She spent only 6wks in the NICU and never had any brady's or apnea. But I watched several of my other NICU families with this. So far we are not experiencing any problems other than her slow "catch up" growth. She is 13lbs 5ozs and in 25 1/2 in. She is pulling herself up and trying to walk around whatever she has pulled herself up on! She chatters quite often and has several funny faces that she shares! She crawls and keeps very busy...no down time! What a blessing we were given! The milestones as preemie parents are so much more powerful and exciting. I pray for all the little ones and God Bless all of you preemie parents!

My son was born on 10-9-00 and weighed 1 pound 15 ounces. 3 months early. He was in the NICU for 2 and a half months. His development was really behind but the only thing he was diagnosed with as a baby was Chronic Lung Disease which I havent yet seen any complications from it. At around 2 he was diagnosed w/ Autism. So he doesnt talk and he is real skinny but he is tall! His 4 birthday is next month and Im real happy he's here today. I remember how much he scared me in the NICU when he stopped breathing when I was holding him. Now he's a happy child that is somewhat mischievious and learning alot from his almost 2 year old sister. Im fortunate he didnt have any major compliations as a infant. This Autism can be frustrating especially knowing that he will probably never talk but he's here and that's all that matters!
