Our beautiful daughter was born at 29 weeks after a frightening two plane rides to go the 400 miles to an adequete hospital and three weeks of bed rest. I was 26 weeks when my water broke. Ahni Adell weighed 3lbs. 5oz. and 15 1/2 in. long. She was a strong child despite RDS,Sepsis and NEC. We were back transported at 6 wks. and spent another 10 days at our hospital at home totaling 51 days. She required supplemental O2 for almost the first year. Even with the horrifying way in which she entered the world she has done remarkably well only needing to be rehospitalized twice so far. Once to repair a stricture in her intestines done by the NEC and once for dehydration after being sick. She is now 18 months old and has hit every milestone on time to the amazement of the therapists. She walks and talks and has such a wonderful personality. Everyday I thank God for our special blessing. It truely has been the most difficult thing I have ever gone through, the feelings are overwhelming. How you can be so thankful to all that worked so hard to save your child and at the same time loathe every one of them. I have spent almost every waking hour with my daughter since she was born, holding her and loving her and thanking God everyday. Keep your chins up!!

I am a mother of a 24 weeker. Taylor is now 17 months old and is wonderful! Taylor was born early due to an incompetent cervix. She has had her head opened up 7 times, along with PDA surgery, and a few visits to the ER. I just wanted to let other parents know, that LIFE IS NOT OVER AFTER PREMATURE BIRTH! With the doctors today...anything is possible, just check out my daughter at Taylornoel.net
I wish every parent out there lots of strength and may GOD wrap his loving arms around you and your families.

Wow it is so nice to hear other stories from people who have been through the same unique experience that I have. I am planning my daughter Shelby's first birthday which is on 10-08-04. Her birthday should have been 01-20-04 but instead she decided to join us 14 weeks early at 1lb.9oz. No one knows why. She spent 77 days in the NICU and went home on an apnea monitor and oxygen, but other than that she is completely fine! Her pediatrician is still amazed every time she see's her! We were one of the very lucky ones to have a relatively smooth stay in the NICU considering that she is a "micropreemie". She is now about 17lbs. and just learned how to pull herself up onto things. She amazes me everyday! I wasn't expecting her to be able to do as much as she has because of the statistics. Which is why I want everyone who is going through this incredibly hard and emotional "rollercoaster" to keep your faith and to stay positive! We never once thought negative thoughts throughout this past year and it has seem to have helped us! Parents of preemies seem to have an unspoken bond with each other no matter if you know each other or not. No one can quite understand unless you have been through it yourself. Join me in praying for all the precious babies and there families that are going through this right now, and a moment of silence for all the babies looking down on us from above who just couldn't fight anymore...

Our journey down the long NICU Road began March 18 th 2004.
Our daughter Paige was born 16 weeks early. Weighing a mear 620 grams 1.4lbs.She was full of life and spunk and very aware. She did not seem to realize how sick she was . She had heart surgerey at a week old. She would look at me with her big dark eyes as if to say " I'll be okay , mommy just prayer forme, love me and believe in me. Paige Spent 15 weeks in the NICU before she finally made it home.
Paige is now 5.5 months or 1.5 mon corrected. She smiles , laughs coos and is a happy healthy baby girl who now weighs approx. 11 lbs. She is still short at about 19 1/2 inches.
Eveyone always says, " I wish they can stay newborn forever" With our precious little preemies we get that gift, alittle bit longer!
God bless those of you just begining your journey and those who are on the road before us.
A Poem for Paige,
Before you were conceived, I wanted you
Before you were born, I loved you
Before you were a minute old, I would have died for you.
Love, Mommy
Michlle
