The Lord has used my two preemie children in a huge way to impact my life. My son, Noah (31 weeker), is 3 1/2 and had his first day of preschool today. My daughter, Sydney (a sick 35 weeker), is 16 months and took two steps on her own today. It is amazing to see how far they have come and what they have made it through. Now, it is my turn to use my knowledge and compassion for preemies and give back. I started nursing classes 3 months ago and am working to become an RN in an NICU. I am thankful that I can be there to support other parents and comfort those sweet little babies. Thank the Lord for using our tragedies for good.

I am the mother of 2 preemies. Daniel was born 1-2-03 at 31 weeks gestation, 2 lbs 8 oz 15 inches long. Emily was born 6-26-04 at 28 weeks gestation, 1 lb 15.6 oz 13 3/4 inches long. I had preeclampsia with both pregnancies. Both children are doing well. Daniel is 20 months old now (24 lbs) and is actually advanced developmentally. My little Emily is up to 4 lbs 5.3 oz and is 2 months old now. So far neither child shows any effect from their prematurity. Thank God for the #1 NICU at Rainbows Babies and Childrens hospital in Cleveland Ohio. They sure did really well with my babies.

I am the mother of an active little boy who will be 2 in October. My son was born at 26 weeks due to pre-eclampsia. He spent 3 months in the NICU and has had 3 surgeries and seems to be growing and developing just fine. Thank God! I still have worries but always hope for the best as he continues to grow. This web site was helpful - just knowing there are many families with premies that are striving.....

At 26 weeks I was diagnosed with HELLP Syndrome. 12 hours later I was the mother of a 1lb 90z baby girl. It has been a hard road, as any preemie parent would agree. Every day you sit and wonder what will become of this beautiful child, and every day there are no guarantees. Avery had a few infections while she was in the hospital but antibiotics always took care of them. We were warned about ROP, NEC, brain bleeds, and all of the other things that could go wrong. We prepared ourselves for the worst and hoped for the best. Avery came home almost 3 months after she was born. She was on the ventilator for 8 weeks but did not come home on oxygen. She did come home on a monitor and had some issues with low heart rate and apnea. I week after she was home she vomited while she was eating and blocked her airway. She had stopped breathing in my arms and turned white. My husband was trying to get her to breathe while I called 911. The ambulance was them within minutes and my husband had gotten her breathing again. My greatest fear was that we had come so far and could still lose her. She stayed in the hospital for 3 days and we were told that she had acid reflux. We spent the next few months giving her medication and tried as best as we could to keep food down her. She wasn't really gaining much weight. Eventually she outgrew the acid reflux and is now 19 months old. Although she is only 16lbs she is very healthy. We successfully made it through the winter with no RSV or so much as a cold. I still think about the first 3 months of her life and it upsets me. Although I am very happy and blessed that she's made it this far, I am very sad that she had to fight so hard to make it to this point. My husband and I would like to have another child but my fears willnot allow to take that chance just yet.
