I am a mom of 2 preemies. Zachary was born 7/12/02 at 32 wks gestation, weighing 4lbs 5oz. He never had to be on a vent, and his only problem was keeping his temp up, he came home at 12 days old. He is now 2 and weighs 35lbs and is normal. My second preemie is Sydney, she was born 6/7/04 at 29 wks gestation, weighing 3lbs 0oz. She also never had to go on a vent, she was on CPAP for 3 days and nasal cannula for 2 more days. She had a few apneas so she is given caffeine, she has a feeding tube since she hasn't started bottle feeds yet, but she is taking 27ccs of breast milk every 3 hours. She is now 2 wks old and doing great, she just needs to grow and learn to drink from a bottle. I hope to have her home in 3 wks for her brothers 2nd bday. This site is great, except I hate the people trying to use it for advertisement. We preemie parents aren't interested in degrees and such, we just want info on preemies. I love reading about birth weight and time in NICU because it gives me hope. Hugs and prayers to all preemie parents. Love those babies!

My daughter was born at 24 weeks, scarey after having lost a son at 20 weeks. My daughter weighed 650 grams when she was born. She was on a jet vent, the CPAP, then cannula. She has laser eye surgery in both eyes, has a g-tube and hearing loss. However, she is the most adorable little girl you've ever seen... she is behind in a few things, but I have every reason to believe that she will catch up. She doesn't eat and cannot sit up YET, but at 10 months old, 6 1/2 months corrected, she weighs 13 1/2 pounds and is 27 inches long.... she's my miracle.

I had lost my first son delivering him at 22 wks. He weighed 1 lbs 6 oz. He lived for 14 hours so when I found out that I was pregnant 4 months after losing him I was afraid. I delivered my 2nd son at 26 wks. He weighed 3 lbs 4 oz and he did great. He didnt need anything to help him breath he just needed to grow. He stayed in the NICU department for 8 long weeks. During that time he had his good and bad days. He went for surgery for a double hernea. The day later he came home. That was 1/15/04. He is 6 months old and weighs 20 lbs 8 oz. and is doing great. I couldnt imagine my life without him. Preemie parents are very strong and hopeful people.
