My son Aidan was born September 14th, 2003, at 30 weeks. He was 4 lbs 3 oz and 17 inchs long. He was only on a ventilator for 9 hours and required no additional oxygen. The only real problems he had were the normal ones like gaining weight and taking his feedings. The lack of problems he faced did not change the fact that this time in my life has been the hardest I have ever had to deal with. When he was 4 weeks old they started to get him ready to come home. But when they did his circumsion he started having really bad apnea's and brady's again and stopped eating. But alittle over a week later he came home, on a monitor of course. At 5 weeks he was 6 lbs even. From the very begining I have pumped breastmilk for him because he never learned how to nurse. I plan to do so until he is a year old. Now at 5 months he is 14 lbs and 25 1/4 inches long. And he started eating cereal a week ago!!! His dad and I are so proud of how far he has come.

Thank-you for providing the detailed research about the benefits of massage for preemies. Although I have no children I am a massage therapist and am always looking for more research out there to share with people about the impotance of massage- from birth through adulthood. What better gift to give your child than nurturing touch? There are resources and links on www.infantmassage.com for those looking for more information.

Erica Rose was born January 22, 2004 she was due on March 18th. She was born at 1.97 lbs. They performed an emergency c-section to remove her. I had gone to my OB for a routine monthly check up and my blood pressure was through the roof and they wheeled me on over to the hospital which was located next door. She is doing well, breathing on her own and gaining weight by the gram. She is getting 6cc's of formula every 3 hours. I was told she needed to almost triple her birth weight before she can come home. My OB said my placenta looked terrible and Erica had grown all she could inside me. Erica's first few days did not go well and she needed mini suppositories for poop. Now though she is going on her own. She has had one brain scan that was good and will have another in 30 days. They say she is tiny but fiesy. Please keep her in your prayers.

My Daughter Abigail Louise was born very Unexpectedly by emergency caesarean on 1st Feb 2000 at only 28 weeks. A scan showed she had stopped growing and was the size of 25-week gestation hence her 1lb 2oz-birth weight!. It was touch and go at times and a very long 4-month stay in hospital, she has just celebrated her 4th birthday and is growing into a beautiful little girl. She’s just perfect with medical or developmental problems, a real miracle.

I had my son 6 weeks early 23 years ago. He weighed 3lbs. He lost down to 2 lbs. 6 ozs. It was a traumatic 2 months that he was in the hospital. Now he is a healthy man 6'2" tall with 2 children of his own. He had several close calls. And I remember when I had him a nurse said to save the name I had picked for him for a child that would survive, because he wasn't going to. I thank God every day for answered prayers.
