I had twins in May,2000 that were 7 weeks premature. One weighed 3 lbs. 15 oz. and the other weighed 4 lbs. 2 oz. They spent 2 weeks in NICU and came home at about 4 1/2 lbs a piece. I am very happy and grateful to God that they are now 15 months old, healthy and thriving!! They weigh in at a whopping 26 lbs a piece and are 32 inches tall!!

In July 1999 we had our first child Asha, she was born at 32 weeks and stayed at the NICU for 12 days, she was born at 4lbs and 1 oz. After the emotional stay at the hospitol we brought her home and we learned as we went. Today she is a huge two year old, she is mentally and developmentally on level and beyond. On July 2001 we had our second child also born early. He was 4 lbs 10 oz and was born 33 wks. Now we are experienced preemie parents and are looking forward to learning more with our son.

I have two children that were born prematurely at 34 weeks and at 29 weeks. My first child who is four years old was born at 34 weeks. I am happy to say that she has graduated from her daycare and is ready to enter pre-kindergarten. She was recognized as "most outstanding student" in her class.

I had my son, WIlliam Dylan, at 33 weeks gestation, via emergency c-section on April 12, 2000. He was in distress. I had almost no amniotic fluid and Will's heart rate was decelerating to almost nothing. He weighed 2 lbs., 5 oz. and was 14 inches long (IUGR). I just wanted to say hang in there to all the new preemie parents out there. Will is now 14 months old (chron.) and doing great! He weighs 20 lbs., cruises, crawls really fast, chatters, eats well and is the light of our lives!!! Keep the faith and hang in there! Preemies seem to have the most amazing spirits! Good luck to you all!

My son was born at 33 weeks after 3 weeks of total bed rest and one week after my water broke prematurely. While in the hospital when my water broke we discovered through ultrasound that Jasper had only grown a few ounces in the three weeks I was on bed rest. I was induced the next day. After seven hours of labor our son arrived screaming and kicking, much to our relief. He never needed any medical assistance other than TPN and a nasal gastric tube until he woke up enough to breastfeed. I pumped for the four weeks he was hospitalized and was able to fully breastfeed him when he was 3 weeks old. Jasper weighed only 2lbs 14 oz at birth and was only 15" long ( the size of a small 29 weeker). He is now almost 3 months old and weighs alittle over 7lbs. My advice to any new mom of a preemie---Breast is best. Insist on it. Pump until they can suck. My son never developed one infection or problem in the NICU--email me for upport or questions. Contact the Le Leche League in your area. Breast is best! Good luck to all parents!
