Our daughter weighed 490 grams ( 1 lb. 1oz)when she was born at 25 weeks gestation. She very quickly dropped to 14 ounces. Although she was on a respirator for 8 weeks, she required oxygen for an additional 4 months. Amazingly, she never had an intercranial hemmorhage. She is now 7 1/2 years old and is totally normal. She requires glasses and is top of her class. She is truly a miracle and loves life, and everyone in it. She is the most caring girl. God Bless

Our son, Joshua, was born at 29 weeks weighing 2lbs 15 oz, he dropped down to 2-8 then just starting growing and he hasn't stopped. He had some problems with asthma but is a very active 12 year old boy and he is definitely not the runt of the bunch (5'5"). He is doing well in school. I just want to support the importance communication and touch with your preemie. We had a tremendous prayer chain going with "Bubba" and God continues to have a firm grip over his life.

Shalom & aloha: I was c. 2 LBS middleaged ago. HELP! too much of U.S.A. hurts me. Write to the Prime minister of France to protect us part-French folks. NB new book by middleaged preemie politician woman [Seattle area?]. Some of us adults who were preemies are in PAIN. Keep medical abortions an option.

As i sit here this afternoon after reading everything here, its almost impossible to see or even to breathe through the tears. they are tears of joy, rememberence, fear, accomplishment, etc. Our son Daniel was born at 24 wks. on 9/18/96 the due date of the baby I miscarried in February of 1996. He weighed 1lb 13oz although his weight dropped quickly to 15 oz where he remained for about 3 weeks. He spent 99 days in the NICU and survived six surgeries before his release. i can still remember the day like it was yesterday. the exhileration and apprehension were almost more than i could bear. Daniel quickly grew and thrived. His oxygen and g-tube were removed at least six monthes earlier than expected and has only been re-hospitalized once (12/2000 finally diagnosed with asthma as expected.) Daniel has by far been the greatest gift, he is warm and loving and just beautiful. God bless you and your family as He has blessed ours.

I have a 27 week preemie, and his name is Kayne. At birth he didnt do very bad, then after 12 hours he stopped breathing. He was put on the ventalator, and he remained on for 71 days. Two weeks we found out he had a grade 3 ventrical brain bleed. He then developed a staff infection in his throat. After about a month he developed severe GER, and following that came many A and B episodes. We came to find out he had many heart problems also, and chronic lung disease. Now at 15 months old, and only being home maybe 5 months of it he has a G-tube, and he is on a liter and a half of oxygen. I cant seem to get him to understand how to eat by mouth very well. But in all other ways he is developing very well and almost walking. Thank You For Listening Carrie Negrich
