As parents of a premature child I am glad I found this web-site. I always knew we were not alone in our fight for our child. It is nice to read other stories that relate to our childs life. Our child was born @ 1 lb 13 oz. She is now 9 years old.

We tryed for 8 years to have children, when we found out we were having TWINS! We later found out it would be 2 boys. We were thrilled. I had a perfect pregancy up till my 30th week. Then my water broke. I was able to receive 2 steriod shots, before they were born. One came out in three pushes, I was then knocked out and an emergency c-section was performed. I did not find out till much later that my 2nd son was dead when he was born, he had no pulse no heartrate, and was black in color. The wonderful NICU Dr and Nurse were able to get him back. I can never say Thank you enough for the care that my boys received in the NICU. They were in the hospital for 6 weeks. My one son came home on an apena monitor. My orther son we just found out may possible have asthma. We won't know for a couple years yet. Both my boys are in phys therapy and doing great. They are 6 months old, and weigh 14 lbs and 11lbs. At birth they weight 3 lbs. To all who are going thru. it now keep your chin up. STAND UP for your child. We thought one of ours was taken off O2 to soon, we fought and were right, he was put back on immediatly. So don't be afraid to speak your mind and concerns, over and over if you have to. YOU are the PARENT!!!
God Bless!!

My son was born on august 26 1991. barely 24 weeks gestation. It has been 11 Years, but I still remember everything that hapened like it was yesterday. My water broke in the middle of the night. My husband and I rushed to the hospital. I received some shots so the baby's lungs would develop faster. Since I was so early in my pregnancy I had no idea yet wheter I was having a boy or a girl. The nurse told me just pray that it's a girl, because girl's tend to have a better survival rate than boys. After 2 days in the Hospital laying upside down and my doctor in panic not knowing exactly what to do, a specialist was brought in. I had an emergency c-section right away. By that time according to the doctor the Baby's feet were already hanging out. I had a boy and needless to say I was very scared, thinking back of what the nurse told me about the survival rate. After the surgery I was placed in a room with a mother of a healthy term baby. It broke my heart to see how she was was able to cudle and feed her newborn baby, and I could not do that with mine. My son is now a healthy 11 year old. He knows that he was born prematurely and that he was a miracle baby.Unfortunately he does not like to talk about this, because he says it makes him sad.

On May, 13th 2003 at 10:28 my daughter Julia-Anna and just a minute later my son Carl-Felix have been delivered by sectio. They had 1120 gr (approx. 2,5 pounds) and 38cm + 36,5cm. 12 weeks to early. And since than NICU. Because I am still tight in this situation I cant write about it - I am shaking all over. Today we have 8 weeks behind us and 4 more to go.
