Wow, what a great site! I wish I had known about it when our daughter was born, "moderately premature" (33 weeks) and small-for-gestational-age due to severe HELLP. She pulled through and is now a strong and healthy 14 month old, but there is still a real reserve of grief and loss in me when I look at her newborn pictures, and also when I see friends with their full-term newborns, so big and fat and strong. Because I will probably never give birth again (too much risk of recurrence of HELLP), I feel that we were cheated, in a way. But at the same time, what an incredible boon to have survived the NICU, and to be so well aware of what a gift a healthy child is, even if she is tiny for her age! Thank you for this wonderful on-line community!

My daughter Koda was born on July 4, 2002 at 28 weeks gestation. She was a micropreemie weighing only 1Lb 5oz. Although her stay in the NICU was somewhat of a rollercoaster ride, she was never "sick". Koda was never on a respirator, never required surgery, nor did she have any infections. She was simply "small for dates". It took months for Koda to thrive and she was discharged on her due date weighing 4lbs2oz. Koda is now almost six months old...adjusted age almost three months. She now weighs 9lbs. We have truly been blessed. Every day that we have together is a blessing. There was a time when I couldn't even imagine her being outside of her isolette, or living without the "ding" of monitors! Koda is a strong little girl and I pray that her course though life continues to go well.

I have a 6 month old son that was born 2 months premature. He was supposed to be born August 26th and was born June 12th. He was only 2lbs.15oz. I was so scared because my oldest son was a full term baby. I no longer have the fear because I had the help from the nurses in the NICU and they helped me overcome my fear.

I am the mother of a beautiful, healthy and spunky four year old daughter, who is my heart and joy. She is the surviving twin of a 31 week premaure birth. She is a typical four year old who has so much energy, so much enthusiasm and is as rotten as the next. She amazes us every day with things that she says and does. Her baby brother adores her and so do we. If you would like to know our story, please email us, at any time, not only is our daughter a survivor, so are we......
