My little girl was born December 21,2009. Eight whole weeks before she was actually due. A normal trip to the doctor for a ultra sound turned in to a very scary trip to the hospital.
On out ultra sound my daughter was not breathing. After two doctors looked at the machine I was asked when the last time I felt her move. Just a minute ago was my responce.
The doctors had a very suprised look on their face! After getting very strick instructions about heading to the hospital, I was hooked up to about a dozen machines. After another 4 hours my doctor decided a natural birth was to risky, not only for me but for my baby.
Off to surgery I went. At 9:18pm my daughter Cheyenne was born. I was able to hear one cry! That was the most amazing sound I have ever heard.
The neonatal team finaly got the vent tube down her, and off to the NICU she went. After 24 hours I was finally able to see my little girl.
No matter how many pictures you see, how much talking you hear, nothing prepares you for seeing your baby laying in a crib, with tubes and lights, and wires all over them.
After 6 long weeks, and many tears we were finally able to bring her home. It has been a emotional battle every day, but it is one that I wouldn't trade the world for.

Hi
I was born nearly 47 years ago as a preemie when my mom was 22-24 weeks pregnant. I weighed in at 2 lbs. Still have the baby bracelet that they couldn't make small enough! Way back then they didn't all have the medical technology that they have today, and I spent months in the hospital, as they wouldn't let you leave until you had reached at least 5 lbs. Medically I am okay other than asthma and severe allergies. My immune system wasn't the best growing up, as I just looked at a germ and caught it it seemed.
Good luck to all you parents with preemies. I think little ones have to be more of a fighter than other babies.
My kids when I had them were late babies, and were big babies, lol.
Take care!

I love your website. My son was born at 26 weeks 1 pound with ROP, bronchopulmonary dysplasia, swallowing and feeing problems, and is now legally blind due to laser surgery. He is 10 and has LD. I started a non-profit, Attorneys for Special Needs Children in Houston and would love to include a link to your site provided you will allow me to do so. Please let me know. Fantastic job

I gave birth to my beautiful 6 yr.old little girl on 12/10/2003. My daughter was born at 29 weeks gestation and weighed in at 2 lbs, 2 Oz. She was 15 1/4" long. Dakotah came into this world fast and too soon. I had pre eclampsia and had to be med flighted to Providence, R.I. I was scared and did not know what to expect, where it was my first baby and everything was happening at once. When I arrived at the hospital my blood pressure was 190/110 and i was almost at the point of going into stroke. So, the doctors preped me for a c-section and my daughter entered the world within 10 mins. Dakotah spent a month and a half in the NICU. I was scared because I didn't know what was going to happen to my child and why all the machines were needed. I met with the nurses and her doctors and the re assured me that things would be alright and that she was in good hands. I sat with me daughter constantly at the NICU, I asked all the typical questions any parent would in that circumstance. I was curious as to her everyday progress and also what the machines were for and why they made the noises they did. My daughter came home on Jan. 24th, 2004 at 4lbs, 4ozs. She is now a healthy 6 year old. She has had few medical problems due to her prematurity but all-in-all she is extremely happy and very energetic. I couldn't be more proud of my daughter and her progress after all she has been through. I thank the Doctors at the hospital prior to discharge and I thanked them for all their help and support. But most Of all I thanked them for saving my daughter's life and my life and for that I will forever be thankful!!
