I am the mother of four premature child - my oldest was born at 28 wks and is currently a healthy 12 year old. My second was born at 24 wks and passed away when she was just 5 days old. My third daughter was born at 35 wks and will turn 3 in just 2 short months. My youngest daughter who is only 5 wks old was born at 28 wks. She is currently still in the NICU where she is suffering from premature lungs and all of the complications that comes with. I hope one day that they find a specific cause for pre-eclampsia so other mothers won't have to go through what my family has gone through for all four of my daughters.

on 2/5/2009 we adopted a preemie that weighed 2 lbs 9ozs born at 29wks with IUGR along with prematurity. we were grateful to be chosen since i had experience before from 2 biological pregnancies of IUGR and preemies before. our new daughter is doing well but has significate delays in all areas along with a condition called torticollis syndrome. that makes it a challenge to "catch up" but we are working with therapists and feel blessed to be a major part of her development as she gains strength and bring us the greatest joy when she looks at us with her huge smile when she accomplishes what seems to be impossible! my heart and prayers goes out to all parents of preemies/children with developmental delays. please remember this...the race is not given to the swift but to the one who endures to the end! our "special" deliveries are just that! if we wouldn't have experienced this, then we wouldn't have come to know the power of survival and endurance! certainly, we wouldn't be such strong parents if our children were born on time. as a matter of fact...my daughter was exactly right on time in my life! it only meant that i get to know her sooner than later!
