Kayla Marie was born on Feb.2,2001, born at 30 weeks gestation, weighing 2lb and measuring just 13".She came out crying and sneezing and was on the ventilator for the first few days, had few bradys and apneas, but just ten days later she was transfered to level 2 NICU. the only thing she had to do was to grow and learn how to suck. she stayed in the NICU eight weeks and that was too long!!! She is now 11months, weighs 17lb, crawls up the stairs, and I never get tired of looking and playing with this miracle baby. She is my fourth baby,my first three were normal gestation and weight,I never found out why I lost the ambiotic fluid, but the important thing is that she is here and health:o)

My son Declan was born at 27 weeks gestation weighing 2 lbs 14 oz and 14 inches long. A mircale in itself considering my membranes had ruptured at 21 weeks. It was a long road in the NICU. He had pseudomonas pneumonia, e-coli and several other viral infections. He was on a ventelator for about the first month of his life. When he finally came off the vent it was still slow. It took him a little bit to learn to bottle feed and much longer to come off oxygen. With my husband in the Air Force and stationed in Spain Declan was born in Germany at the military medical center there. We were transfered back to the US where Declan was released from the hospital at 4 months old on oxygen, something they couldn't do in Europe. Today he is a happy and healthy 26 month old. He came off oxygen at 9 months and has had no major health problems since. His development is normal for his corrected age( some things are between corrected and actual. With everything the doctors and nurses prepared us for with this little guy, he has far exceded their expectations. In every way Declan is a miricale!!!!

We are adopting a boy born at 27 weeks and cocaine exposed. Ours is the only home he has ever known (other than the NICU) as we are his foster parents. He is 1 1/2 now and still struggling with bpd, growth and feeding-he has a trach as well, but what a joy he is!!!! This site has been so helpful to me

When I was born 16 years ago, I was 3 months early and weighed 1lb 14oz. I was in the hospital for 4 months. I am now in high school planning to become a nurse. This year I have made straight A's all year and have a 4.0 average. I am not dumb or slow like all of my doctors said I would be. I am very forunate and lucky. And happy to prove everyone wrong. Preemies can accomplish greatness. I know I will.

On July 2,2001 my wife gave birth to a miracle,my son Jaedin Scott at 28 weeks of gestation due to severe pre-eclampsia weighing 2 lbs. 1 1/4 oz.and 15 in. long.Today he is 5 months old (2 1/2 corrected I believe) and weighs over 11 lbs..He is now trying to hold his own bottle and is rolling, smiling and cooing, holding his head up and growing like a weed.Despite an umbilical hernia he is doing well and is showing no long term affects as of yet.
