My son was born at 32 weeks Sept 23 2006. He just reached his first birthday. He was in the NICU for 7 weeks related to feeding difficulties. He's had 4 surgeries in the last year, and has been hospitalized over 4 times with respiratory illnesses. He is recieving OT, PT, Speech, therapies. We have come so far, but so far to go. I read of all these miracles on here and realize my son is also a miracle. What I dont know is why God has chosen me to care for our son. Hes got soo many problems considering he was only 8 weeks early. Pray for me and my family, that God will shine in our lives.

I am 28 years old and I was pregnant with our first child due November 30th. My pregnacy was going great until my 26th week. I started swelling and having blood pressure problems. My doctor told me to take it easy and to cut back on my work load. At 27 weeks, my blood pressure was getting worse and he put me in the hopsital for a day to monitor the baby. I went home on blood pressure medicine and bed best. That was on a Monday and that Wednesday I was back in his office, because my blood pressure was not coming down and the swelling was getting worse and worse. I was put back in the hospital that Wendesday and I was told Thursday morning that today was my little girl's birthday. I was 28 weeks. I had developed severe pre-eclampsia and they had to take her, because I was getting worse by the minute. My kidneys were starting to shut down due to the protein levels in my urine and I was rushed into surgery where they performed a classical C-section. I will never be able to have a vaignal birth due to this. Lily came out crying, but I didn't get to see her. My husband told me that there were 16 people in that room, 8 for me and 8 for Lily and they took her away. I was taken to recovery where they started me on a drug called Magnesium and I was unable to see her until I had been on the medicine for 24 hours. When I did get to see her, I wasn't expecting her to be so small. She weighed 2lbs. 1.4 oz and 14" long. She was on a ventalator, but seemed to be doing fine. She is now 2 weeks old and we have been on a roller coaster so far. She had a large PDA and after 5 dozes of mediciation, it closed! She now is having trouble with her blood gases, but they tell us that it is normal for her age. My husband and I go to see her everyday in the NICU at the University of Tennessee NICU. The nurse us there are wonderful and have become a part of our family. Our daughters full name is Lily Grace Walsh and the nurses say that she is their little pricness. People ask me all the time how I am doing. I tell them that one of the ways I cope with this is that she is just in another womb. I walk into that NICU everyday with such joy and I leave with such heartache. I see other babies out and I think why can't I have mine. She is in this situation because mommy couldn't carry her anymore. I am the reason she is fighting for her life! I know she is coming home. I have faith in God that she is going to be just fine, but I just want her home. My prayer is that she is going to be home by Christmas.

My daughter Amirah was born at 24 weeks weighing in at 1 lb 7 oz, 12 inches long. She was in the hospital for 4 months and during that time she had a PDA ligation, central lines, laser eye surgery, the works. She stayed on oxygen for 4 weeks after coming home at 4 lbs 5 ozs. She is now a healthy 9 month old with no problems as of yet. She's right on schedule with a 5 month old and remains a miracle to me everyday! And she's not on any treatments of medications!

My son is now 12, he turns 13 December 23rd. He was born 6.5 weeks premature and with lung disease. He is now a healthy, happy preteen and beginning puberty. He is truly our miracle baby and the fears and concerns for him have passed with the years. My advice to parents with preemie children...don't let the setbacks have too much power, the human spirit is very strong and the children need us to give them strength.

My daughter was born in March, almost 2 months premature. She is now 6 and a half months old today and is doing great. She is turning over and trying to sit up - all things that she is supposed to do at this age. Yes she is small for her age, but acts as if she is an older baby. I continue to be thankful for God and her fighting spirit because these are the things that got us/her thru. God Bless you all.
