I was a preemie, born on October 26th, 1992, along with my brother. Our parents were told we wouldn't survive, and we wouldn't of, if we didn't attempt to live. We cried like a kitten meowing for the first time. That's the only sound we made, before our air sacs exploded. We were in the NICU for three months, pretty much up to our due date, which was on Valentine's Day. We were both on ventillators, my brother for two weeks, and I for one. I came home first, and my brother about a week later. I weighed 890 grams, and he about 880, or so. In pounds, I weighed 2 and three fourths of an ounce, and he was 1 and 4 ounces. We are now 15 years old, with no problems what so ever. The only problem is my brother's 20% damaged lungs. Mine are minimally damaged. By the way, I totally agree with a comment that another guest made, with preemnies seeming to be sad, and have trouble making friends. I've had the same troubles, and totally agree with it, and I know my brother would, to. WE both always had each other, though, so we were never alone. I know that when I graduate, I want to be an NICU nurse, and save babies like me, and give the parents hope, that miricles can happen, like me and my brother.

After many years I decided to return to school. In one of my classes I am doing a research paper on preemie babies. I chose this topic because my now 14 year old daughter was a 2 lb. 19 1/2 inch preemie baby born 3 months early. I have experienced so much in the last 14 years with her that I thought I should share this experience with more people. I found this site by complete accident. And may I add, what I wonderful site it is. I only wish there would of been something like this back in 1993. Things may have been a little easier for me. All of you are very lucky to have all of this great technology along with such a informational web-site. I can not wait to share more with you all! Thank you for letting me...Brenda "B"

I am a mother of eight year old twins. They were born at 24 weeks. Elizabeth was born at 1lb.1oz.and Ethan was 1lb. 5oz. Both of course was put on the vent and Ethan "weaned" himself off (he kept pulling out the tube) at 1 1/2 months. Elizabeth had hers for 2 1/2 months. We were actually making the preparations for her to come home on O2 when she pulled out the tube! They decided to see how she would do, and she has never had to be on oxygen again. Ethan came home at 2 1/2 months old. He was 4lbs. He lived in the camper with us until at one day before they were three months old Elizabeth got to come home. She was 3lbs. 8oz. It has been an experience for all three of us. (their daddy could'nt handle the situation). They still have problems with respiratory problems but are slowly growing out of them. We have learned to see the signs and symptoms early on and try to "catch" it quickly. They are used to the breathing treatments now, just turn up the t.v. louder. But I am so blessed that these are the only disabillities my babies have. It could have been so different. God definatly BLESSED me. Thank you for listening!!Donna

my son was born 11and a half weeks premature, and now he is 15 months, and he is doing great. although he barely started crawling not to long ago, but i had another baby 3 months ago and he was born at 36 weeks and 5 days premature and he weighed 7pounds and 2oz so he wasnt so small, my first son weighed 3pounds and 6oz and was 15 inches long. so we are all doing pretty good although i still wonder if my oldest son is going to be okay and grow up like a normal child.626
