My daughter is 6 now. She is the tallest girl in her class. Her teacher says she's also the smartest. No one would ever guess she was 7 weeks early and only weighed 3 lbs. 7oz. I had a perfectly normal pregnancy until 31 weeks my ankles swelled so bad I couldn't feel my toes anymore and nothing would make the swelling go down. I went in to see my Dr.at 32wks. The nurse said my BP was high and I had protein in my urine. The Dr. came in only long enough to tell me to go pack my bags and meet him at the hospital. 3 days later they informed me that they couldn't wait anymore, I was going to have an emergency c-section within the hour. I was scared out of my whits until I heard her cry. Even being 7 weeks premature my daughter was literally healthier than I was. She was breathing on her own, and could for the most part, regulate her own body temp. So all she needed was a feeding tube, which she insisted on pulling out the 4th day. So they were forced to give her a bottle, which she took like a champ! As it turned out I had a rare condition called H.E.L.L.P. syndrome. I went basically from my c-section into ICU. I spent the next 3 days in ICU before turning the corner. That 3rd day was also the day I saw and held my daughter for the first time. Oh, how I had longed for my baby those 3 days. Her Dr. says she's no worse for the wear. A perfectly normal, healthy child. But I'm not, that experience changed me forever. The Drs. all say I'm lucky to be alive. Not many people survive H.E.L.L.P. In my heart I know they're right!

My son, Jack, was born feb. 1996 at 26 weeks, weighing 1.1kg. He is now 11 and extremely healthy. However, he seems to be sad all the time, finds it difficult to make friends, and has a pretty negative outlook on life. After doing some reserch on-line, I have discovered that this can be quite common in premmies. Is there anyone else out there who is experiencing this? I would love to hear from you.

When I was in the hospital I DESPERATELY needed to hear positive stories of micro-preemies. I went into the hospital at 20 weeks. All the doctors told me the baby wasn't going to survive and to terminate the pregnancy. But I stuck it out and 5 weeks later our son was born. Aside from some typical NICU issues..... he has survived. He was in the NICU for 3 months and has been home with us for about a month now. He's a perfectly normal baby boy and you'd never know he was a preemie. So for those of you needing inspiration.... just believe. Miracles really do happen!!!!
