My son, Jacob Storm, was born at 28 weeks on January 15,2007. He came home on March 29 after 75 days in NICU. BC Childrens for 43 days and Prince George NICU for 32 days. He probably could have came home sooner, but we were scared. Jacob was intubated for 5 days, CPAP for 30 days. He was on Caffiene (which I would recommend) to help him breathe, given two blood transfusions, but we were lucky as he is a fighter and did very well and was not afflicted with common premie problems...some but not all. The best advise I could give is spend as much time at the hospital as you can without going insane. He knows us so well and I truly believe he did so well because he could feel how much we loved him and encouraged him. Sometimes we were at the hospital for 16 hours and other days (for our sanity) 3 hours. We were lucky in the respect that we don't have any other children so we could do this. Some other things is the bigger hospitals you can get primary nurses. Ask everyone that you like. Some will say no for their own reasons but keep asking. Talk to the doctors often. Read your childs chart. It is your property so be sure to ask. And ask, ask, ask. Write notes on the monitors if things bug you. Don't let mean nurses get under your skin. Remember that your baby, is YOUR baby. Jacob was born at 2lbs 9oz. As of today he is 6lbs 7oz. He is due 7 days from now. He is a normal baby. I remember the neonatologist telling us he would probably have most if not all the problems because he is a boy. He is truly our 'Miracle Baby' He doesn't have any of the issues anymore that make him a premie. Oh yeah when we stick our tongue out at him, he does it back! And he's not suppose to do that yet!

zaharah who is 4months now came a long way from when i had her at only 23weeks. she weight only 8onces at birth, now she's 6pounds 4onces and is one big baby who i will never regret having. she is still on the breathing machine, but hopefully the doctor will soon try to get her off. the reason for that is because her lungs haven't fully develop. the doctor said she was one of the smallest preemies ever to be born. that is just one big blessing for any one who has a preemie. butyou just cant give up on them so easy, i almost did until some one stopped me. now that she is fine i feel relieved.

my son was born at 26 weeks 1 pound.he had open heart surgery at 1 week. He had severy pulmonary problems and was intubated for 2 and a half months. Had most of the premmie problems and we were told he would not make it but he fought and won the war. so if you are readind this please dont give up hope.my son came home the 4 of january with o2 . he is doing very well although not going as fast as he is suppose to as far as lifting his head he is now 4 months or 7 months. If i can say anything that could help parents in the same possition as we were it is it will be long and hard and a roller coaster ride but be their for your child as much as possible. I sleept at the hospital and was there at every moment and i think that that is what may have saved his life.HAVE HOPE.MY SON WAS 1 POUND AND NOW HE IS 11 POUNDES AND AS HEALTH AS COULD BE IMAGEND FOR A CHILD WITH ALL HIS PROBLEMS.
