I have had two pregnancies giving me two preemie sons both times. I had severe pre-eclampsia both times. With my first son Benjamin who was born @ 31 weeks my blood pressure was out of control. I also had severe swelling. My protein level was increasing each day. I was put on bed rest a couple of times to help the B/P but it just wasn't helping. I spent 5 days in the hospital before the doctors decided to take Benjamin. He was born on March 1, 2004 @ 2 lbs. 12 oz. & 15 in. He spent 42 days (6 wks) in NICU. Only a few set backs, but nothing serious. He came home weighing 4 lbs. 12 oz. To our surprise we found out we were expecting again! Hoping that this time it would be different. It wasn't! By my 27th week my B/S began to rise. I actually got dizzy a couple of times. But then it began to get better. Unfortunately, my protein was so high that the doctors decided hospitalize me during the 28th week. I felt really good and my B/S was ok, I thought I might make it a little longer. But my blood plattlets were dropping each day and were now in the danger zone so once again, emeregency c-section. Cole was born on March 13, 2005 @ 29 weeks, 3lbs. 3 oz. & 15 1/4 in. His stay was so much easier on us. We knew what to expect. Health wise Cole did better also. He just needed some extra time to mature and grow. He did came home weighing 6 lbs. (a monster compared to Benjamin), home on caffine (heart rate low) and a monitor for about 3 mos. He too spent 6 1/2weeks (47 days to be exact!)in NICU. We were very blessed to have two healthy boys. God was so good to us. It's hard enough to go through this once, but twice withing 1 year (12 mos. 12 days to be exact!) Both are doing well. Really no delays. Benjamin does have low muscle tone, but nothing too serious!I am thankful for my two little "miracles"! Just keep the faith. Because once your miracle if home it will all be worth it.

My daughter Grace was born in 2001 at 27 weeks and 1.05 kg. She came out of the NICU 100 days later with BPD and spent the next several months on O2. How I came to hate the sound of the pulse-oximeter alarm in the middle of the night! The Winter after stopping her Synagis treatment she came down with RSV and spent a week in the hospital. She still has residual issues with her trunk strength but is otherwise doing fabulously. To all of you still in the ICU or newly home, take heart -- you can make it and so can your brave little baby.

My daughter, Abigail, will be 1 on January 5, 2007. She was born at 32 weeks and had a rough start. She is now a healthy 12 month old walking by herself. I am so proud of her and am thankful to God. He answered our prayers!

We met our little man when he was 3 months old. He was born with cocaine at 27 weeks weighing 1 lb. 4 oz. At 1 week old he had a grade 3 brain hemorrhage. He's now 22 months old and 27 lbs. Physically he's doing fabulous. He still aspirates easily and we're very concerned about sensory issues. He is doing soooo much better than anyone told us he would. He's a blessing in our lives and we're very privileged to have him. God is good.
