Alexis came 9 weeks early at weighed 2 lbs. 4 ozs. She was strong from the beginning but had to have surgery 3 days after she was born. She had a hernia blocking her bowel and if she had went full-term she may not have made it...some things happen for a reason. She spent 6 weeks in the NICU and it was the longest 6 weeks of my life. I had to full term pregnancies but a VERY long time ago so I felt like a new mom again and when I left the hospital without her, I thought I was going to die. Alexis will be 5 months old next week and she weighs around 11-12 lbs...she loves to eat, loves to smile, and is developing just wonderful. If anyone needs anything please...please...contact me, I also have some premie girl clothes I would love to give away.

It all started when i was really sick for about a month i went to emergency room because my stomach hurt really bad so the doctors tryed to stop my labor but it didn't work they did a emergency c-section when i was 24 weeks and my son weighed 1lb 3ozs. and was so very tiny, i couldn't see him for about three days i was so scared because didn't know if he would make it but with my family praying he did but he was in the hospital for about 5 months and was on a breathing machine for about 3 months and had everythign you could imagine wrong with him but he fought like a true soldier he is then he came home on apena machine and oxygen for about 2 months and had nurses come see him every month and therapist speech, physical, and a intervention specialist so he has alot to work to do but is going to make it he walks and starting to talk

My son, Eli, was born by emergency C-section at 32 weeks, 1 day, weighing 4pds, 4oz. I had spent most of the previous two months on bedrest and in and out of the hospital due to unexplained bleeding. Then at 8pm on May 8, 2006, laying on my couch at home, I started bleeding heavily. My husband rushed me to the hospital where soon after arriving, the contractions started and the bleeding got heavier. Eli's little heartbeat never went into any distress. The labor could not be stopped by the dreadful Mag so they decided Eli should be born before things turned bad for him. He was born at 3:01am on May 9, 2006. I got to give him a kiss on the forehead before he was whisked away to the NICU to begin his 3 week stay. He was on CPAP for 5 days then a low flow cannula, then nothing, breathing room air. He did have to have a dose of surfactant on his 2nd day of life, but that worked wonders and he took off from that point. I got to hold my precious son for the first time on Mother's Day. He came home at 35 weeks, weighing 4pds, 11 oz on an apnea monitor and caffiene. Both of those have since been discontinued and he is a happy, healthy 4 month old (10 weeks adjusted age) weighing 12pds, 6 oz. I owe my whole world to those doctors and nurses in the NICU. I had no idea what a NICU was until that day and never imagined I would have a preemie. I pray everyday for every preemie and thier families. God shows himself in everyone of those little beings fighting for life.
