I have twin daughters that were born at 26 weeks gestation. They weighed 1lb.12oz and 1lb.15oz. They were on ventilators, cpap, and nasal cannula. After 87 long days in the NICU they both came home. That was 2yrs ago. They turned two on 10-02-01. They are very healthy and doing great. I am concerned about the effects prematurity may have on them as they get older. I want those who have new premmies to have hope and pray because premmies are survivors and they are stronger than we think. I would like to hear from others who have "premmie" toddlers and hear how they are growing, learning, and behaving.
God bless all!!!

I really enjoyed your site. It contained so much information as to where to get help and other resources. You may already be aware of something moms and dads can do help with the health of their new baby. That's infant massage!
There are numerous benefits to infant massage. Some of these include:
* Improves immune system
* Helps to regulate digestive, respiratory, and circulatory systems
* Helps relieve discomfort from gas and colic, congestion, and teething
* Promotes feelings of competence and confidence in caring for baby
* Eases stress of parent who must be separated from child during the day
A site that provides even more information on this topic is: http://www.infantmassage.com within the message.
Please visit them and promote what they offer in you site. It would be a great addition to the other resources you already offer.

Hi, I am a mother to a beautiful 7 month old girl named Naomi. She was born at 33 weeks because of preterm labor and severe toxemia. She weighed only 3 lbs 2 ozs. She was in the hospital for 3 and half weeks. She came home weighing 3 lbs 11ozs. Today she is not only very healthy(she has not been sick a day in her life) she weighs 13 pounds. She just cut her first two teeth and is rolling all over the floor and is about to crawl. I was so scared when she was born because she is my first and I couldn't bring her home right away. But I couldn't imagine my life with out her now.

A little history..., I have a beautiful 15 month old son that was born 8/8/00, 7 weeks early.(My water broke, the Dr. gave me a steriod shot for the babys lungs and then 2 days later he was born) He weighed 4lbs 11 oz and was 17 inches. He stayed in NICU for 3 weeks and then finally came home. Today he is a BIG boy (nearly 25lbs) healthy, happy and the absolute joy of our lives. Now I'm 23 weeks pregnant with baby #2 and terribly worried that again my water will break early. We were lucky with the first and he was healthy but what if this one is delivered too early? Has anyone had PROM with their FIRST child and then had a normal full term 2nd baby????? Is it possible?

My family and I are the foster family for a splendid eighteen year old girl. While she is eighteen now, she looks to be no older than nine. She was born at 26 weeks and has overcome many barriers. There will be many more challenges to come because she is completely blind, medically fragile, and developmentally delayed, but se brings more joy to us than one could ever imagine. How lucky we are to spend time with her!
