I am the mother of a 24 weeker who is wonderful. She currently reside in the NICU of Johns Hopkins however I know she will be home soon. I found out I was with child the day I was checked into the hospital for IC/PTL. I didn't know what to do all I did know was that I had life in me something I never thought possible. I stayed in the hospital 3 weeks holding on until she finally came March 27th weighing 1 pound 7 ounces. She has has seizures, IVH bleeds, Basil Gangula bleeds, low blood pressure, ROP, and reflux but through it all she remained strong and she is my hero my strength and just think I was told before I could never have children

I gave birth to my daughter Sophia 11 weeks early at 29 weeks due to Toxemia that made it impossible for me to continue to carry her. i ahd so many dreams of the whole normal pregnancy expereince that I was disappointed that I did not go through labor. However, I was so happy that she was alive. The first few days were so difficult as I was still Hypertensive and hospitalized for another 4 days after delivery. One day 2 she stated to have bleeding in her lungs, and day 6 she stated to have bleeding in her stomach and they had to replace the feeding tube. After 6 weeks in the NICU she was able to come home on June 16th. She is on no oxygen and no medication and that she is such a little miracle. I could not have asked for a better gift for heaven. She now tries to lift her head and she is responsive to others. we still have a long road as she was 2 pounds 6 ozs at birth and she is now 4 pounds 7 ozs. I look at her and think of all the things that the doctors said not to expect of her and know that she will be a normal and healthy little girl.

My last three babies were full term. Then, I experienced my worst nightmare. I had twins weighing 1.7 and 1.12. Life was a rollercoaster and the crying did not stop for three weeks. One baby girl thrived and her twin brother became sicker. I was scared every time the phone rang , but after 10 weeks my daughter came home, healthy. Her brother remained for 2 months more. Oxygen and apnea monitor was my life for the whole winter. We never left the house and today at eight months, it was worth the effort. The children are in excellent shape and gaining weight. Love your baby and be happy for all milestones they may reach.

My daughter Abigail was born January 5, 2006.. She was 2 months early born at 32 weeks gestation. My water broke early that morning and she was born at 5:45 p.m. We don't really know why.. no known complications. Abby was 4 pounds 4 ounces at birth. After 3 weeks in the NICU, we were finally able to take her home. I thank God everyday that she was completely healthy except for her weight. She lost those crucial last 2 months of putting on the pounds. She is now almost 6 months old and 18 pounds. She is already eating solid foods and almost sitting up on her own. Preemies are little fighters and I want each of you to know you are in my prayers. Spending time in the NICU is a difficult time for a first time parent.. Believe me, we know! Best of luck to all of you who are going through this emotional time. We can definitely sympathize with you and you are surely in our prayers!
